Veal Baton Rouge?

My old man is turning 88 Sunday and asked for veal for his birthday, as they use to get it on special occasions as a child. Where would be a good place in Baton Rouge to find it?

Cooked in a restaurant? Raw in a store? If so, what cut? A bit more information would be helpful.

Sorry thinly sliced to cook at home with white wine and mushrooms over egg noodles.

I've found veal cutlets at Calandro's and believe it or not, Albertson's. Prepare yourself - it ain't cheap.

As mentioned; Albertson, Calandros & sometimes Rouses have the packaged sliced veal. The problem with these is that they are slices from the leg and generally aren't very tender. Real scallopini (cutlets) are made from better cuts (top round), which you would probably have to order from a butcher.
I use the leg slices because they're easier to find and cheaper, but they are hardly ever as tender as what you get in a restaurant.

if you buy veal in a grocery store you are getting leg cuts, prepare to be disappointed. if you really want a proper veal cutlet, try calling iverstines or some other specialty butcher or restaurant supplier
