You might have seen me mention this before, but get the Gypsy App I think it is a combo for Arches and Canyon Lands and a combo for Zion and Bryce, it is worth the money.

Agreed. I learned about this app here and have been using it. Very informative.

Zion will be a madhouse when you are there. We are staying in the lodge in the park. The lady at check in told me people start lining up out in front of the lodge at 1:00am to get back to temple of Sinawava. I hiked up to the west rim via scouts lookout (base of angels landing) yesterday morning and met a couple from Ohio. They got in line at 4:00 and only made it as far as the lodge to park. Wicks suggestion of getting a shuttle from one of those places in town is well worth it if you can’t stay in the lodge.

I've been reading about the Zion horror stories with the shuttles not in operation. We plan on going to commercial shuttle route. Any recommendations for a specific one to use? Also, I assume with using the commercial shuttle they're just going to drop us off at one of the trailheads and then come back and get us, leaving us without any way to get to anther trailhead when we finish up. Is that correct?

Would you have any specific advice on what our plan should be with Zion with a 8 year old and a 4 year old, using the commercial shuttles?

I saw on the Zion National Park Connection facebook group that there are rumors of shuttles being fitted for social distancing.

I think the Narrows is the only trail head at the end of the Scenic drive. That is about 3.5 miles from the lodge. .5 mile from the lodge heading towards the Narrows is the Grotto parking lot and there are a number of trail heads there. Then there are trail heads that start at the visitor center which always is accessible and always has parking.

We used Red Rock Shuttles because they picked up at Zion Outfitters where we were staying, but Zion Guru has a shuttle along with at least one other company and I took a picture of their schedule.

I couldn’t say as far as which shuttle to use. We were in the park and actually drove our truck to the narrows the day we arrived, about 2:00pm. We lucked up. I’d planned to rent a bike from the lodge to ride there, but turns out we didn’t need it.

Yes, randomly driving around and trying to enter the Scenic drive in the afternoons is a great idea, with smaller kids, they aren't doing more than one hike anyway.

If we plan to spend two days in the park what would you guys suggest as our itinerary. We are basically Zion illiterate and I've read information on the Zion webpage but it's still a little confusing.

Canyon overlook hike, just east of the tunnel is a 1 mile hike with good views. My kids (10 and 7) both said it was one of their favorites. If you don’t hike the narrows, which you should, at least let them get in the river and swim some. It was the virgin river but now that I’ve been there they just call it the river... kayenta trail to upper emerald pool is a decent, shorter trail.
See if your experience was the same as mine, but it seemed like a younger more party type crowd at Zion. We saw a girl strip down and skinny dip in the virgin river just off of riverside trail. Several folks had speakers with music playing while on hikes. Everyone is different, but that’s not why I visit the parks. Zion is beautiful, and tied with arches for our favorite on this trip, but we didn’t notice any of the Walmart type crowds at the other parks. Probably has to do with the fact that it’s consistently one of the top 3 visited parks.

Is that trail open now? It was not open a couple of weeks ago and I had heard great things about it.
