Ok now I’m just convinced you’re trolling everyone. Electric heat? What? It burns wood (pellets) you moron.
The one thing I’d kind of agree with you on is the “calling it a grill” aspect. It doesn’t get hot enough to sear (max temp 450), but steaks have came out delicious on it. I wouldn’t ever grill burgers on it, but I prefer cast iron burgers anyway.

It holds right at 20 lbs.
It was clearly operator error on this attempt.
While the pellets do generate the heat the device is basically an oven.
Last weekend I cooked those chickens and it was in the low eighties outside. Last night it got down to the upper 40s. I did not take that into consideration. I knew what used last week on a 3.5 hour cook and thought I had enough.
I should have just put them on my Charbroiler for two or three hours and then brought them in the house and put them in the oven.
Those Traeger pellets seem to have a lot of dust. Do you guys find that some are more dusty than others?

What it seems to do is use a small electric element--too small to actually cook like on a cheaper electric smoker--to ignite the pellets. The Traeger pellet I have burn so clean at higher temps like 250 or 300 degrees to impart much smoke flavor in a short smoke (3.5 hours is short to me). Now these two butt were subjected to about 20 lbs of pellet heat and have some smoke flavor because I set on the smoke setting for about 3 hours. That setting is too low to cook the butts to 200 degrees.
It just is not what I expected and it does what it says and I glad you like it. You shouldn't care that I don't like it.

You must have a smaller grill or your didn’t fill up the hopper. One bag of pellets allowed me to smoke a pork butt for 10 hours and smoke a chicken for 3 hours. And it was a chilly morning when I did the pot butt. No reason you should have ran out of pellets unless you didn’t fill it up enough.

Only dealt with Bear Mountain brand so far. No excessive dust noticed

Stay away from Traeger pellets if possible.

Apparently this is too complicated for you. You may want to stick to hotdogs and burgers.

Haydo...just tossed a chicken on. Going to do your method it and smoke it good for two hours and then raise up the temp to finish.

My father in law has a Charbroil 940 that he replaced every nonaluminum part, including the shell, with stainless steel. Upon his death, I have made claim.
The rest of the family think it’s junk.

bumping this to relate my experience today with hamburgers---just like i said earlier the thing is an oven.
It is nice to go turn on and cook but I do much better on charcoal for grilling and smoking.
If you just want convenience and are not particular get a pellet grill. If you want to cook better use fire.
I have used a few times now---things that would do good in an oven are fine. I did a turkey in it at Thanksgiving. At cooking temperatures there is no smoke. You can bake a butt on it and add a little smoke by using their smoke setting but that temperature (less than 225) is cooler than I generally smoke.

Set it on smoke and got some some and left it there for about 3 hours (it ran mostly at 160 degrees so it never would have cooked those butts the way I wanted).
It's not supposed to
That gives you your heavy smoke to impart on the meat then you turn the heat up.
I already said this....pay attention.

Huge pro tip....fill the damn thing up when you start
The hopper will last long enough for a brisket in cold weather.
Inept or trolling?
Seriously, this isn't hard. Traeger makes me feel like a pro but I don't overthink it nor hate on it as I'm cooking.

I said it 1st
That's THE method every time. I go 2 or 3 depending on the protein.

hamburgers
To me, it's never been a grill. It's my smoker. I've never once treated it like a grill.
Anything not being smoked goes on my gas grill or charcoal grill depending on my mood/season.
This is like....really hard for you.

Well if you call Traeger like I did they will explain to you it is NOT a smoker and is a grill. Smoking on it is confined to temps below 225. If you want to have any smoke at all you will need to keep the temps low. I do butts and chicken at 250-275.
If you want an electric smoker spend $150 on real one.
If you want a grill use charcoal or even gas.
The best description of a Traeger is an oven.
Why are you so defensive of this gimmick appliance?

An absolutely great grill AND smoker.
Charbroil just quit selling them. The rep told me they were just too heavy and too high a price point to get good placement. I almost offered to buy the design and start having them built myself!
I have cooked tens of thousands of meals on the two I have owned over 30+ years.

Like the traeger, you don't get it.

Pellet smokers seem to get a lot of hate. I’d never claim my pellet smoker imparts as much smoke as a stick burner but I’ve had great results with mine. Got a nice smoke ring on my beef ribs last night
Also got a nice bark
