In helping a friend clean up and redo his kitchen, we stumbled on a bag of Williams Sonoma nice glass containers that are completely sealed still with many different spices. Probably 20 glass jars the size of like an alcohol mini at the gas station. They never got wet and have the seal intact, is it even worth it?

Ground stuff is gonna be pretty tasteless by this point.....or even have some off flavors. Whole stuff like cinnamon sticks might be OK.

Smell and taste them. If they're bad, the jars are at least cool and can be reused.

Is throwing away spices a thing?

I have spices in my house from 10+ years ago that I still use. Aint dead yet.

They’re not likely to kill, but they’re not gonna have much flavor. What food item can stay fresh for ten freaking years? Dump that ancient horde and buy fresh.

Try them. They won't be as good as fresh but they're probably still usable. It definitely helps that they've been sealed. You may have to use a little more than fresh. Let your nose and your taste buds guide you.

As a single guy, it's not practical to replace my spices every few months or even every few years. I use them until they aren't usable anymore. Just the other day I used a Maharajah Curry Powder from Penzey's that is probably five years old and it was fine.
