Umami Japanese Bistro is preparing to open its second Baton Rouge location in the former Tsunami Sushi space at 1 Smart Way, near Highland Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard.
The popular Japanese restaurant opened its original location on Burbank Drive in 2016 and is known for its creative sushi rolls, fresh sashimi, premium seafood, wagyu beef and Japanese-inspired dishes.
The same owners also operate Geisha "Sushi With a Flair", with locations in Prairieville and Denham Springs.
The expansion will give south Baton Rouge diners another opportunity to enjoy Umami’s menu in a new setting. The space offers a modern dining atmosphere in one of the area’s developing commercial corridors.

Who wants to eat in the atrium of a garish office building? That space is atrocious. That group is usually pretty heady, but I don’t believe this is a good idea.

What are you talking about? The restaurant space is very nice. It was packed all the time. Umami will do well there assuming rent isnt ridiculous.

A lot more convenient for us! We drove down Burbank last Saturday to eat there.
