There is ZERO comparison between Atlantic salmon and Pacific salmon. Not even close. My favorite is a tossup between King and Sockeye

Atlantic salmon is farm raised dyed shite.

Get salmon from Alaska or the PNW.

Fresh caught never frozen is best but might be a stretch for Louisiana.

I really like Coho salmon.

Here too. All 3 local rivers get a lot.

It was practically impossible to not snag one even though that wasn't my intention.

Fun times, looking forward to my local fall fishing now that I have a year under my belt. Big numbers of coho expected for us as well this year.

What time of year was it? McKenzie doesn't really get a fall run so I'd imagine you caught and ate Springers (Spring Salmon). They arrive in Feb to may and have to survive to spawn til fall

Late August.

This was around 8 years ago.

I will look for pics.

Was told they were Chinook Salmon, looked like CS. Never heard the word Springers.

They definitely were.

Springers is just a local term for Chinook Salmon that migrate in the Spring. The McKenzie dumps into the Willamette which gets the largest Spring run of Chinook out of all Oregon tributaries.

They don't spawn til the fall. The fall fish come in and spawn pretty quickly. Their fall run is very bad currently but this was 8 years ago so I have no clue what it was like then. Was a good year clearly if 4 people got 2 person limits.

I'd love to see a pic. We are currently near the end of some bad runs so fishing regs have been tightened up. It's been a tough 2 years.
