I took 2 pounds of turtle out if the freezer 5 or 6 days ago.

Grabbed it to cook this evening and realized it had leaked juice on the shelf in my fridge.

Noticed on the package it says cook immediately after thawing.

Typically, I wouldn't give it a second thought. But it seems like a strange thing to put on a package.

Should I roll with it or trash it?

ETA- not really sure if the leaked blood came from a package or just defrosting and having it on the packaging.

Why defrost it if not to cook?

How’s it smell?

Probably took at least a day to totally defrost if left in the fridge to do so.

Like already mentioned, the smell test. If it smells off, don't use it. Not worth getting sick over a couple pounds of turtle meat, but a shame you didn't use it sooner.

The heat will kill any bacteria. You should have seasoned it a few days ago though.

Don't throw it away. It's not bad.

If this were true you could theoretically cook any expired or spoiled food.

The truth is there are strains and spores of bacteria that grow on food which are heat resistant. If it's spoiled, don't cook or eat it.
