1. USA - by a fricking mile btw. This wasn't the case 10 years ago, but in the last 10 years the craft brew movement has rocked the us. Almost every other country has one type of beer they do well, we do every type well.
2. Belgium
3. UK
4. Ireland

unibroue does some great stuff up in quebec and is available in the states - i've even seen their la fin du monde and maudite in louisiana. in addition to that i've been to 2 really incredible little breweries in montreal called brasserie du dieu ciel (available in bottles in the states) and benelux that were brewing legit beers.

Germany

This may be the case but I think that they have just as big of a local beer scene that other countries do. The quality of the beers are great as well. They may be boring styles but I think that the craftsmanship is something to admire.

it's kind of endearing that every small town in germany has a brewery. but there's a lot of cheap nasty shite in plastic bottles brewed and consumed (mostly by kids, deadbeats, poles, and ossies) in germany - and most of it is sold at aldi.

of course the styles are limited but there's more out there than one expects - pils/lager, light and dark weißen, märzen, schwarzbier, bockbier, rauchbier, and kellerbier. to say nothing of the nasty-as-all-hell radler and diesel.

Three years in Europe working for the Czech government I sampled an amazing array of beers drank local beers at the brewery they were produced in...I love certain American beers but would never rate them higher than German beers...though Austria may be underrated especially in the Weiss beer category not deserving of a top 5 either...I toured Europe extensively on the Czech taxpayer and can attest to the validity of my list...

Does Germany or Czech Rep. produce any World Class Stouts, IPAs, Dubbels, Triplels, even Pale Ales? I don't think they do.

Michael Jackson, towards the end of his life, was saying the US was the best beer country because we produce world class beer in a variety of styles.

No mention of New Zealand craft brews? I thought New Zealand was one of the hottest up and coming countries in the beer world right now?

Etc...Etc.... Anyone ever tried anything from there?

LINK this is a lovely darker beer from a smaller brewery in the Czech Republic there are beautiful oatmeal stouts and IPA's in the Czech Republic and Bohemian Hops are considered the best in the world. Everytime I go back there is a new craft brewery that is taking beer into a new direction...As far as Germany they have smoked dark beers that you may or may not be able to sample where your at...

Thanks. Admittedly its been 7 or 8 years since I was last there. I just checked on Ratebeer.com for a listing of Czech beers. There are a couple of stouts and an IPA or 2. The consensus on Ratebeer is they are decent, the IPA seems to get good marks. But none are in the class of US IPAs and Stouts. I know ratebeer is just one source and beer is subjective though.
