In today's world where high quality beer is ever more present, Istrouma really needs to go back and figure out how to make drinkable beer. I hope they do, they have a cool location. But the beer is not good.

I was listening to a beer economist on a podcast over the weekend and started wondering about Tin Roof and if they could survive.
Essentially, it's a great time to be a beer consumer. Plenty of high quality really good beer is on the shelves (for the most part). It is a tough time to be a brewery or even a craft beer bar.
Essentially, the market has reached equilibrium. Craft beer exploded with several years of 10-20% growth. What you are seeing now isn't necessarily a bust in the market, but moreso the industry catching up to normal business growth of 4-5%. On top of that, young people don't drink as much, binge drinking is going down, inflation is hitting everyone's pocket books, delayed affects of covid (though i think most of that is over now), and a new era of social media which has replaced socializing in person has all hurt breweries. Then, you add in what i said before, if you aren't making great beer, then you really don't stand a chance anymore. Everyone can make excellent beer. And since the market is nto as hot as it was, anyone making mediocre beer or anyone who can't combine great beer, with good marketing, and a good venue to drink the beer at, will have a tough time.
A lot of breweries tried to take advantage of rapid growth and expanded quickly (Urban South, Stone) to take advantage, but have since had to retract and close down expansions. One local brewery in particular, Parish, was very smart in their expansion efforts. Andrew did not branch out quickly and recklessly, but forecasted the market and saw what was coming. I'd bet that they are doing well financially and do not have to worry about this new beer market.

I wish Cypress Coast would buy the space and relocate. Good beer and atmosphere would be awesome for the LSU area.
I honestly don’t see how Cypress Coast makes it. Great beer but pretty sterile environment, bad location, no kids allowed just doesn’t seem like a recipe for brewery success.

It would be nice if we could have 1 brewery in Baton Rouge that made great lagers.
Cypress Coast is ok, but it's getting harder to differentiate them from anywhere else. Hazy's on top of hazy's.
Also, CC not distributing along with what you listed, it would surprise me if they lasted another year.

I’m not sure about this one. College bars are still packed on the weekends. Look at concerts and music festivals. They seem to be more popular than ever before and packed with people.

That was more speculation on my part, and more of a societal shift. Not necessarily applicable to every person or location.

I will listen because that sounds interesting but I think a “beer economist” (fake job) either knows what’s going on and won’t say or can’t see the forest for the trees
“Craft beer” was a fad 10 years ago and some of the ones that were in place when the fad hit made money and a lot of people jumped in because who’s dream job isn’t going to a warehouse where you get to do chemistry experiments and drink all day. So we get a big proliferation of very bad beers

Thinking on this, it would be awesome if a group like Bluejacket out of DC that opened Saint X, would do something like that in BR, and utilize Tin Roof's space. A lot of brewery space and close to LSU's campus like Saint X is to the dome. If they could add a kitchen, add the cool horizontal fermenters and churn out German and Czech lagers, as well as cask that would save me an hour drive.

A good Pils is great. But beers that are ou typical pilsners like ML BL etc are just weirdly flavored water with alcohol.
I still mainly drink IPAs both east and west, but i have found i have been craving other things like marzen's and hefes and dunkles ad octoberfests.

He's an actual economist but lived in Berkley and was planning on becoming an academic before the brewer's association approached him.

Yep, Andrew told me a while back he was the sole owner of Parish and the company was 100% debt free, they are rolling because he did it correctly. He told me this before they purchased that new piece of land, so not sure if they still debt free but his plans for that land is pretty nice.

It's because of their license, it's more like a bar license. Gilla is the same, that's why they can serve other breweries beer.

I found the whole setup of that place to be a convoluted mess. It didn't help that the beer was rather bleh as well.

I see your point but the only way Cypress can have guest taps and sell hard seltzers and frozen drinks is with a bar license. That requires them to not allow under 21 year olds in there. The laws here in EBR suck for breweries.

I’m just hoping another brewery opens up in the location with good beer and beer and family atmosphere!! It’s my neck of the woods and even though Tin Roof didn’t have the best beer we still enjoyed hanging out there.
