Anyone know where I can pick up some Tiger Prawns this week?

I've always heard that you can find anything at the Westwego Seafood Market.

You can check out Golden City or Oriental market if you want to save a trip to the Westbank.

Why would you want Asian farmed tiger prawns over fresh gulf shrimp???
To throw a few in the next shrimp boil and watch the reactions.

They are being caught wild in the GoM. Not a lot, so the ones at a market would more than likely be imported.
You see a handful of catchings in Lake Borgne and some other places around La, but nothing near commercial quantities. They used to farm them in Florida, but they are too susceptible to disease, so they shut those down.
Any Tiger Prawns you purchase in the US is farmed elsewhere. They are tougher and drier than our brown/white shrimp, but less flavorful than lobster/langostino.
They are a novelty because of the size, but I’ll take fresh shrimp every day.

It's true. I've seen enormous shrimps out there before. Locals just call it the shrimp lot. 100 Westbank Expy, Westwego, LA 70094
