So many options for eats in NOLA, so little time.

Houmas House looks cool. Might be worth a stop to see as a plantation, and maybe eats. But for the Friday night I was thinking small town very casual home cooking restaurant. At first blush, Roberto's seems to fit that criteria. But I'll keep an open mind.

I like the fact that BR will be packed on the Friday night. We are hoping for a lot of action. We have hotel reservations already. I presume that we wouldn't have any problems getting into the Chimes or similar establishments for drinks and maybe some late night eats. Am I wrong?

It would be great if Gameday is in town for the game.

Based on my experience with this thread and on TD generally, LA folks are some of the friendliest people you can come across. Thanks.

It never ceases to amaze me how generous people are with their tailgate food.

and drink as well. I have a route I take from where I park and if I go alone (which my wife only makes a couple games a year so that is often) I make a drink when I park and hit several tailgates on my way to the stadium and each one I have a snack and refresh my drink. Only one of the tailgates (the last one which I have always participated in) are people that I have known for a long time. The other 6 or so are people I have just met from walking past over the years. I don't stop at all of them each time but do hit three or four.

One makes fried shrimp poboys for each and everygame. One makes jambalaya, one cooks pork one cooks steaks. All have ice and cocktails.

The tailgating sounds amazing. That's why we are headed to BR on Friday night: we want to get there early and not misss any of the hospitality.

The Chimes for brunch sounds good but will be tight. Our flight leaves New Orleans at 1:40 :(

Middendorfs for some thin cut catfish could fit the bill and is not too far out of the way...I think they are open on Sundays.

Some place in Kenner near the airport may work...Kenner Seafood, Le Parvenue, Fisherman's Cove or even the Cabin Restaurant on the way home...the food is not amazing, but its solid and the has a good atmosphere...

you mentioned chimes on friday night....it will probably be PACKED, but always a good time with friends the night before a game. Go hang out in the bar area while you wait for a table, you will have a great time!

Hope you have a great time in LA/LSU!

Is there anyone in the US that's even qualified to give an opinion on this? If so, do they really post on this board?

Hey Kajungee and Bill OReilly, are the invites to your tailgate parties still open for us Canadians?

We've been telling all of our friends up here that we will be eating gator and other Cajun treats.

How do we find/contact you?

You'll be welcome at pretty much any tailgate. Just walk up to one and say you are from Canada and you came to experience tailgating. You'll have all the beer and food you ever wanted.

I will also be in NO (Coming from NYC) on Thursday morning and staying Thurs night..I am from BR, but I will have a friend (I think) w/ me who has never been to Louisiana. We will go to BR on Friday night (my parents live there) b/c I like to get out early to tailgate....

My plan was:
Lunch Thurs- K Paul
Dinner Thurs night- Emeril's (only b/c I have a friend who works there- it could also be NOLA, I need to find out)
Thurs we will ride the street car down St. Charles, perhaps walk down Magazine Street then obv through the Quarter (planning on staying there, but no room yet)

Lunch/Brunch Friday-Court of 2 Sisters- although after seeing the info on the 25 cent martini's, I may opt for Commanders. I just know the only time I've eaten there (For dinner), I wasn't overly impressed- and we knew people who worked there.....it wasn't bad, just wasnt' amazing as I expected (or as Gramercy Tavern was when I ate there - both times)

Friday night- Chimes in BR- one of my favorite BR places- I must eat here every time I come into town

If you like a brunch buffet crowded with tourists go ahead. Go to Commander's. Tory Mcphail is really hitting his stride as a chef. Commander's is really good right now.

Court of Two sisters is just one of those places I have always wanted to eat...plus if we are staying in the Qtr...easier.
But it was probably 8 years ago I ate at Commanders, so maybe its time to give it another try....

The street car takes you two blocks from Commander's. Do not go to The Court of Two Sisters. The only reason that place exists is pay-offs to hotel concierges. 25 cent Martini's and a restuarant that is as good as ever. Trust the glassman on this Tigra.

you likely went right after chef Shannon died. The place was in a tailspin for a while. Mcphail has rescued it. Go to cp. The court is not good.

Anyone mention Louie's for breakfast on Sunday? If you don't mind slumming it a bit, its about neck and neck with the Chimes as far as LSU tradition goes.

Glad to hear more positive reviews on Commanders Palace. I booked a reservation for our Thursday dinner there. We would have probably gone for brunch on Friday but are playing golf.

Since we'll be eating lunch a little later (2'ish) on Thursday, I'm leaning towards Galatoire's for the old school power lunching, and traditional food. Although, I'm still considering others including TA's recommendations of August, Mila, and Cuvee.

I'm thinking Roberto's River Road restaurant for Friday dinner before the high school game and Chimes in BR later for drinks and a late bite.

Still reviewing the breakfast options suggested for Sunday.
