Might be my "top restaurant" of all time.

Darrell's Special po-boy from Darrell's in Lake Charles.

DI's in Elton

Almost Home in Natchitoches (good home-cooking overlooking Sibley Lake)

Tunk's Cypress Inn (west of Alexandria) - good food and atmosphere.

Popeye's near hospital (near General Mouton?) in Lafayette- they have a buffet with honey barbeque wings!!!!!!

How about small towns in south Miss and AL since a bunch of us live east of LA?

I'll start: Pelican Point on County Road 1 south of Fairhope.

Ed's on the Causeway in Spanish Fort.

The Light House in Bayou La Batre, AL

A good place to get fried chicken in the towns of Homer, Haynesville & Springhill and also in Magnolia and El Dorado, Ark. is Chick-A-Dilly. The chicken is delicious and the coleslaw is really good as well.

Johnny's Pizza in Monroe is the best pizza I've ever had. Not one of those new age places that tries to make healthy (cardboard tasting) pizza; its the good greasy stuff!

don't know the name of it or exactly where it is, but someone may know....A few years ago on my way back to Baton Rouge from the Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula, I stopped at a bakery/pastry place. It may have had "Bavarian" (not surprising) in its name, but I really don't remember. It was excellent. And I mean truly excellent...some of the restaurants recommended here people have sentimental attachment to, but the food is mediocre at best.

Taste of Bavaria, about a mile west of I-55 in Ponchatoula on Hwy 22. I think they are open for breakfast and lunch only, but I try to time my passes though that area so I can stop and eat. It is incredibly good.

These 2 are a large part of the reason Hermann Johnson and I weigh about the same.

If you are close to the coast, Mae's Cafe' in Golden Meadow is awesome. Headed south on the 4-lane, it's on the left just past the "Welcome to Golden Meadow" sign that the cops are always hiding behind.
