Thanks for the help with the list. If you take the area from Cedar Park to N. Mall Blvd., a distance of about a mile, there are 25 chain places in that small space. That averages out to about a chain restaurant every 211'.
Good for the BR economy? I wish all the people were eating at BR owned businesses, which some of the franchises are. Of course, do you want the Hooters clientele in your favorite place?

How does a BR owned business and a chain really differ in terms of being good for the local economy of a city? Both pay sales tax. The only real difference is that the family also will pay tax for having a house if they live in the area but other than that how does a Dempsey's make more money for the city than a Chilis? In most cases the Chilis is more likely to bring in more tax money and hell in many cases be more honest in how much money is taken in. (not talking about Demsey's here but there are many places that take cash only and Im sure they cook those books)

I'm not an economist, however, it seems that if the profits from the establishment stay in the local economy it benefits us more than the profits being deposited in a bank in Dallas to be distributed there.
If my company sells a product that Best Buy also sells. When I sell one, if I make $200 profit and I use that money to have a guy build a bench for my garden and he spends it at Dempseys and Gugich pays a barber for a haircut, etc etc, doesn't that benefit BR more than it being deposited in a bank at BestBuys HQ?

But thats money only attributed to the owners. In many cases the owners may not even live in EBR anyways. The people that work at a chain probably have higher salaries in the managment too so that might make up for one slightly rich owner vs a few well paid managers. The profits are still distributed to local people while a % of that goes to the corporation. Of course there are many franchise owners that do live locally too. Now if there was one HUGE restaurant that became a chain out of BR of course that one place will have a great impact on the local economy in many ways. (of course did Raising Cane's leaving hurt the city) Bit for the most part the local guys may not even make that much more (net) than a well paid regional manager for a chain.

What about them? They have a HQ in BR yes.. Not sure a coffee house is the same as a chain restaurant though. Do you know what their economic impact on BR is versus say Starbucks per store? Does a CC in BR bring in more money than a Starbucks per franchise and have more impact locally? I have no idea.
