Port of Call is awful if that's the point of dissention.

I agree that Port of Call is bad, and I think that it's been bad for a long time. It's way more than just one or two takes. But if I'm the only person who has noticed it, maybe it's just me.

Anyhoo

Was in the neighborhood. Place seemed packed so just went to swirl and had a bottle with the wife.

They are definitely doing well

Idk I confused bunchie & toof not too long ago.

Bunchie gets bored easily, loves new concepts but hates the FQ. & toof likes routine & the comforts of Metairie dining but will come into Nola for good libations

I go into Nola all the time for food. That said Metairie RD gets it too.

There are a lot of places around that pour Guinness “properly” lol. And there’s also debate if that’s just a marketing ploy anyway.

It makes a difference but the draft system usually plays a bigger part. Any thing from it being dirty or the nitrogen being off. Take this from a guy who dated a girl who gets trained at St. James Gate every year to do QC for them. I couldn't enjoy a Guiness anywhere with her. Sorry the dive bar that is currently on the phone with the plumber about the backed up sink in the men's room because someone washed a red beat pot out in there doesn't serve Guiness properly. True story there

I went. Got the crudite plate, fish sandwich, couple of Guinness beers. Sat at that bar. Lovely place and they seemed to be executing everything to a t. Wife got a drink and an English sparkling wine (who knew?). Clearly a place opened by someone who knows what they are doing.

Small but interesting menu.

Looking forward to going back and trying some other things.

Did they have any English ciders?

Recently read a really good article about how English sparkling wines are becoming popular and how ciders that are made in the champagne method are following that trend.

Right. This is crucial for any draft beer.

But the whole “two pour proper pour” is a myth.

So the OP claiming that nowhere around here pours properly is prettt stupid because that’s what he was referring to, not shitty lines or shitty draft systems.

He might be referring to the pour only. If you are dealing with Guinness it encompasses the system, proper gas levels, and temperature. Proper pouring technique but nitrogen is off? Improper pour to them. If you want to talk about pouring technique it is essential to release the gas so people do not get full so quickly. It does affect the flavor as well

They have become very popular over the past twenty years as England has gotten warm enough to be able to do it.

The famous wine guy Steven Spurrier owned some vineyards there until his passing.

Gusbourne is the most famous one.

oh ok lol

I’m sure you calling it the “best poured Guinness” didn’t actually mean it was “poured correctly”

I went this past weekend.

I enjoyed it. Really well done spot, nice and cozy. Great service. Beautiful work they did on the space inside and out.

Food we had was good. It was, in fact, one of the best tasting pints of Guinness I have had since Ireland.

McNulty has a positive review up today.

I will be back to sit at the bar or porch
