They’ve always been overpriced

Every restaurant in town arrives early and preps food. They have an entire menu section of enchiladas made with their various meats. Do you think anyone is baking a new batch of enchiladas for every order that comes in? Of course not.
They pre-cook the proteins, assemble the batch food pre-shift, etc. La Carreta isn’t pulling raw ground meat out and cooking your enchiladas from scratch as you order them either. That would be a long process.
I like La Carreta fine enough, by the way. I just don’t think it’s fair to say one place is bad because they pre-cook obvious foods when every restaurant regardless of genre does this. They’re not baking fresh bread pudding for you or starting a teeny pot of gumbo for you at The Chimes. This is standard procedure.
You can see the raw chunks of meat for fajitas and whatnot being thrown over the flame of the grill regularly at SG.

Always order the carne asada (whole skirt steak) at any “ mexican restaurant “ or crazy Javier (filet) at superior as well.. they are cooked to order and much better than the presliced, reheated fajita plate.... cut it yourself, comes with same fixings...quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, etc will also have reheated, presliced meats. Get a whole piece of meat but don’t bitch about the price because they are cooking it fresh for you only

I agree about the hamburger being expensive but
All this other stuff is bullshite.
The only thing that has gone up considerably is the happy hour large top shelf ritas. They used to be $9. Now they're $11. This was way before covid btw. That's still a great deal. A drink that big at any decent restaurant or bar in the city is $20 easy. A cocktail bar and its pushing 25-30.
They run one of the tightest ships in town, have an army of people that are on point, and any and everything is addressed immediately.
I dont mind paying a little extra. It keeps me from pulling up a barstool next to the type of person that frequents la Carreta.

I actually just looked through the menu prices. I agree with OP. Brutal. $16 for a large app of guac..

Has anyone else noticed that the Superior Grill margaritas do not have as much alcohol in them?
Yes bc I did not die after drinking 6 beers afterwards when I got home.

Did not notice b/c I feel they've always been high. People will continue to pay. They are wanting the experience. The reputation will keep bringing people in.
But with that being said.. Casa La Vida has $2 small margs on Saturday. They are not the strongest ever but I got a buzz off 3.. $6. Their food is pretty good too and service has always been good.

Lol the food is very mediocre and extremely overpriced. This isn’t really debatable. Compare the menu prices to literally any other restaurant in town. The fajitas are $10 (almost 2x) more than any other place
But sounds like you like paying extra to be around other types of people just like you

I wouldn't call the food mediocre. It is expensive compared to most other places, sure. Lunch prices are very reasonable though.

Was responding to his comment about the types of people at other restaurants. Not trying to insult him. The SG experience is unique I guess, not worth it to me but I understand other people feel differently.

Clientele is part of the experience

not worth it to me

I also live right by there on Highland, but to complain about the kitchen being up and roaring before 8am is ignorant.
I worked my way through college in the restaurant business, all of which was fine dining establishments here in BR. Every one of them has the kitchen rolling at or before 8am.
If you think it's over priced than go hang out with the kinds of folks that frequent La Caretta. I know damn sure and well no Mexican place in BR has the amount of milf's hanging out at it that SG does.

Are there cheaper alternatives to being in the general vicinity as milfs? Is the Cadillac still open?
Look, I’ve been to SG on multiple occasions. The food is mediocre and prices are outrageous. Will I go back to SG? Yes I will. Are there better, more economic options if I just want a decent Mexican meal without paying for the milf experience? Absolutely.

We live in old goodwood and grab superior margs after work at least once a week. You must have a much higher tolerance than me

Superior Seafood has much better frozen drinks

Superior Grill is probably the most over rated restaurant in BR. They cook all their food a day or two in advance and reheat everything. On top of this, they charge out of the arse for reheated mexican food.
maybe

La Carreta is just as good quality and much cheaper
hell no. La Carreta reminds me of "mexican" food someone threw together at their house with pre-made items. It's legitimately awful.

Something definitely changed. I've seen three put grown men down. Usually two for a woman is a shite show.

Name me the dishes you have had that are very mediocre.
I mean Jesus you are in here touting la carreta. That place is about as run of the mill tex mex slop as you can get.
It's hard to take the mediocre comments seriously when you start out with your they reheat 2 day old food for all their customers.

Most people do this. It's why I don't shop at the college drive walmart, or the dollar tree in Central, or whatever is on plank road minus Tony's.
