If you want excitement in your life, tell someone they are common and watch them smack you across the face with a tightly clenched fist.
As for it being more expensive, everything is more expensive. Caviar has more than tripled in price over the time you indicated. a good fillet mignon is no where as cheap as it once was. Even bologna cost more, along with Vienna Sausages.
