Thinking of roasting the turkey after spatchcocking.

Is it a bad idea? Never done it that way

I'll never cook poultry another way.
I smoked 2 spatchcocked turkeys for Thanksgiving and they were the best turkeys I've ever eaten.
Same with cornish hens. I did jerk spatchcocked hens a couple months ago and they were outstanding.

ETA: I always do them skin side down and baste the cavity with whatever concoction I come up with

I did a breast only in the Weber kettle with snake method and it turned out great. The skin browned evenly, it looked great and tasted great. I put a little pecan wood for a light smoke. It was a nice complement to the fried bird.

Will it be different for oven roasted ones?

Should be the same. Just check your temps. Cooks way faster.

It’s the best way to do it IMO

I'm glad people are spatchcocking more now. It's definitely the way to go.

Did it for Thanksgiving and it's the only way I'll do it again
