Cooked a pastalaya last weekend for a party and, when cleaning the pot, noticed a thick layer of black soot powder all over the bottom. Do not recall seeing that before.

Burner is set in a R&R stand rig and have used it multiple times over the past 8 years without seeing any soot. Was using a new bottle of propane.

Thoughts?

Maybe you have a clog in a port or regulator could be going bad? It's a sign of too much fuel being burned without enough air in the mix

I get it on mine at times. I don’t know the exact answer, but I’ve always thought it had to do with oxygen flow and how the burner was burning. I wash the pot and never give it a second thought.

Was your flame blue? Yellow flame means soot. Burner’s not getting enough oxygen. Could be clogged with gunk, rust or maybe the regulator is going bad.

Get you a Tip Cleaner and clean out all of the holes in your burner. You may have a small piece in one of them.

It's definitely because your flame isn't burning correctly. Adjust the little airlow "wheel" on your burner until the flame is almost completely blue. It's ok if just the very tips of the flame have a tiny bit of yellow but that's the most you want.
