So Mr B's only wants to work for 70-80 people? Wow.

Yeh man.... how are you going to charge someone 4k for 22 people to eat?
again, she is willing to take of the room rental fee. Its not like we don't have the money, its the point of paying $200 a person for food. shite i bet i could get John Besh or Susan Spicer to personally cook for us for that price....

That's just odd. I'm sure people use a room for a group for business lunch meetings and such and don't pay that. The price makes me think they misunderstood something.

Maybe they are thinking wedding reception?

Not sure who in the world has 80 people at a pre-wedding dinner though. I would imagine having that 4k min removed them from consideration from a large number of people wanting to do this. Its not like there isnt a ton of competition.

The email response was written... thank you for considering us for your rehearsal dinner. The only problem is it might be a little expensive for the amount of people attending. It sounded pompass at first then realized she really just meant it was fricking expensive for 22 people....

I wonder how often they are booked if they basically require 80 people to make it affordable to their menu prices. I wonder if the cost would be the same or not too.

What did your email to them say?
I'm just wondering what someone would get if they asked about using a room for dinner for about 22 people.

Those rooms stay booked, especially this time of year.

Maybe stop using "rehearsal dinner".
Seriously, it seems silly to have those minimums for 22 people, BUT it may depend on the time of year. If this is a busy time of year, they want the maximum they can get, so if you're looking at June or high wedding or party time, that may well be the issue.

Honestly I thought about this

Its the middle of May... there is nothing going on in the city that weekend. its the reason we chose it.

May is just after jazz fest and into graduations and wedding season.
I'm surprised at Muriel's, though I can't say that I wouldn't expect to spend something close to $100 per head with a 3 course meal, use of a room, tax and gratuities. I assume that exludes the liquor?
What price are you looking for?

Call it a "private party".
What did the Muriel's price include? I was looking at the private party info and I believe it said a liquor minimum was also required or something like that. I'm curious as to what it included, though.

Its just a minimum for food and drink. I figured anywhere from 75-100 a person would be reasonable. But, even at a $2500 min thats at $113 a head. Does that sound too high to everyone else? I'm comparing it to the $111 a head for about 110 people for the 3hr reception with a cocktail hour included, this is for food and drink as well at the bourbon orleans. Now take it the minimum there is much higher, but its also a reception/ceremony with the hall rented out.
Includes top shelf liquor, a raw bar (oysters, boiled shrimp etc), shrimp and grits bar and a carving station as the "expensive" parts of the food so to speak.

The site indicates that prices include tax and a 20% gratuity. On the site, it looks like they have minimums for 10 people and above depending on the room selection or, at least, that's how I read it.
Does that price also include the $8 per person validated parking? You said y'all were walking, so I assume it doesn't.
Do you only have one hour of cocktails for the reception? If so, that could make a difference right there.
I think I'd call them and find out what you can do to work it down a bit if that's what you want. You're pretty close to your high in your "reasonable" range. Technically, you could make a reservation downstairs for 22 people, order the table d'hote menu at $37.95 per person, plus liquor, tax and gratiuty and be somewhat under, probably. I'd bet they put a party that large away from the crowd or in the bar area, perhaps. You could call to find out about a reservation for that size and where they would put you etc... and just see what you get.

Does the $4K include alcohol? If it does, it really isn't that bad. If it doesn't, then that is way too much. We went to Arnaud's Saturday night and spent almost $200/person.

I'd suggest looking into Arnaud's. One of the rooms upstairs would be perfect for a group that size.

Here's a novel idea... Call them and actually speak with someone
As far as the price, it could be the time of year. The rooms prob hold a lot more than your party. If they accept less from you in order to accommodate your party, they are potentially losing money because the place isn't maxed out. Therefore they charge you the same amount.

I thought the smartasses stayed on the OT...
Yeh man. I understand the need to fill the place up, thus the $4000 minimum. Had my mom call this morning the girl this morning. Thats what it is. According to her and someone earlier in this thread there is graduation going on that weekend and these places book up early. I'm assuming thats why they aren't budging. Also, just got off the phone with the guy at GW Fins he called me back, as I left my cell number on all the emails that I sent out last night and today... hows that for a novel idea.
The guy at GW told me to book early b/c of the graduations going on that day. He is sending me the stuff here soon. Also, heard back from the Besh people.. they have Luke, Domenica and Borgne open will be sending info on them as well. They said they will do special menus for the smaller groups.
Oh and asked about just reservations for 22 people. Dude said no way he could assure we could all sit together....
