I was looking at the Taco Del Mar franchise page for a BR location, after the Business Report has listed them as coming well over a year ago, and supposedly in Jarreau's Perkins property..

But, it shows on their franchise location list as 4965 Govt St at Foster. Isn't that the current location of former LaTech WR Sean Cangelosi's Smoothie King?

It shows Beachhead Inc(Vosloh and Redlich as BR/LSU owners) for this franchise region..

Well, are they here yet, or are they forthcoming?

I want to try their fish tacos.

So even though I don't see a Taco Del Mar sign from the street driving by tonight, Taco Del Mar is inside Smoothie King's old tune-up shop building?

Same renovated service station.

I tried Taco del Mar once. Food was halfway okay (for chain restaurant food), but you have to wait for someone to actually show up to the counter. I don't plan on going back.

If fish tacos are what you're interested in, do yourself a favor and get the fish taco plate at La Reyna on Perkins. You can get them on flour or corn, it's one of the house specialties.

They opened one up in Watson about 7 or 8 months ago, and it closed 2 months after opening

Fro, you know I'm a LaReyna regular for that exact dish..

I also get my BR Fish Tacos at Whole Foods and La Tiendita, but don't like Superior's version.

smartass, I do seem to remember folks here ripping on the location off Govt St, but I've never seen it when going down the road, thus outta sight outta mind..never tried.

BR needs a Baja Fresh!

No wonder they struggle besides the food quality, get that franchisee some eye-catcher lessons from Valluzzo, Graves, Hendrick.

I went to Catholic with his boys, and yes they are run excellently, even though I've never been a McDonalds fan, not even as a kid.

I was always a BK guy, especially back when the Trotters ran excellent ones in BR, Hou, Chi,etc..grew up in Tara..practically lived at their Bocage/Lobdell location.

Today, BR BKs are garbage..inedible.

That taco del mar was a franchise held by Brent Beal (my old college professor) and his mgmt group. The restaurant was in the red every month, therefore, disfranchised and equipment sold at a loss. The service there was piss-poor, and the food constantly dried out and burnt in the hot line steam tables where they serve you up front. Took 20 friggin minutes for a worker to slap together one taco and a press a quesadilla.

Just goes to show you, that it's either impossible or incredibly difficult to manage a restaurant from the office.

Me too. I remember when it was built. I don't eat there anymore but pass by it all the time and one thing about it, when the smoke is pouring out of the vent it smells great.

Hung out there on Friday nights during high school.

I think Taca Del Mar on Government street has one of the worst reps on the food board. I dont think the food has anything to do with them not doing good business. The people working there might be the worst in BR and that says A LOT.

I'm bummed that they went out of business. Decent burritos at a decent price. Never anyone in there, never had to wait on the staff.

I don't think that they reopened after Gustav.

I'm also bored to tears from the fast food options downtown.

Damn, how is that smoothie king surviving? It's hard enough to make any money running a regular smoothie king, but that shithole seems doomed.
