My smoker (Old Smokey) is dead and not worth fixing at this point.

I like it fine, but I am interested in others thoughts on a decent one for under $150.

(I did a search back to March 12 and found nothing)

Ah, would be good to know.

I have an electric right now. I like it because it's easy. I rarely have time to babysit a butt for 14 hours.

I'm open to other thoughts, but....

Check out the Orion Cooker. It's a convection cooker and a smoker and is just a bit over your price point. Love mine.

I have a Masterbuilt propane. They come in both propane and electric configurations. A lot of times they go on sale and you should have no problems finding a model in your budget. The metal on mine is thin though and not insulated the best, had to add a door gasket.

Many charcoal options are set it and forget it once you adjust your vents right. Sometimes Weber Smokey Mt can be had under $150 for small size or lightly used. Also Pit Barrel Cooker could be worth a look.

If simplicity is what your aiming for then I wouldn't bother with a stick burner. Pellet will also be outside of your price range.

Thanks. I will look those up.

Yep. I'm at the point in life where I realize I like to cook, but I'm no chef and honestly just a mediocre cook because I don't have the patience to be good.

And I'm fine with that.

If you're looking for simplicity and willing to go a bit over your price range, take a look at the Pit barrel Junior. $230 delivered.

Home Depot will have the Masterbuilt, 30" Digital Smoker on sale tomorrow, from $179 to $139. I'm a Weber charcoal user but have had meats smoked on these units and they are very good.

Didn't know they made a small size PB. That looks awesome. Small enough to keep in the shed and big enough to hold a considerable amount of meat.

This looks good too. I like the ability to front load.

Can't buy one until end of June though. Moving in a month and don't want to move more than I have to.

If you're just looking for an easy to use, set it and forget it type electric smoker, the Masterbuilt is hard to beat.

If it were me, I wuld just look on craigslist for a Weber Smokey Mountain in good shape. One should be easy to find in Atlanta. Not sure where you are but WSM 18" $100

Another option would be to build an Ugly Drum Smoker (UDS) using a 55 gal barrel. They have kits for this. Cheap electric or propane smokers are also an option if you are not interested in charcoal.

The orion and pit barrel are not really smokers. The Orion is more like an oven, while the Pit Barrel is more similar to a grill in that it uses direct heat. I have not used either, so I cannot speak to the product.

Good idea.

About 40 miles from there. Meaning about 3 hours in Atlanta most of the time.

The WSM is great. I've used mine probably 5 or 6 times and found it pretty easy to use. You just have to check it periodically to make sure you're staying at a consistent temperature. Honestly set up and cleaning is probably the biggest difference between the WSM and an electric smoker.

Too bad you are not in BR.

I saw a used Smokey Mountain Weber smoker (18") in excellent condition for $90. New they sell for $300.

I still might buy it.
