Got my rec tec smoker 2 weeks ago. I've done some chicken and burgers on it already, but today I'm gonna really open it up for a test drive. Getting ready to throw a 9 pound boston butt on there. Got 2 racks of ribs and a pound of sausage to put on later. Somebody finna eat!!!!

The butt rubbed down and going on the smoker. Will update throughout the cook.

Doing ribs for the guys at work tomorrow night. I’m going hunting this afternoon so the smoker will stay cool for today.

Ribs added. Turns out there were 3 racks of ribs in the pack from Costco, not 2. Not sure what I'm gonna do with all this meat, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Ribs are for dinner. The butt I’ll save for another day. Knew that one might take considerably longer.

Good move.. I’ve been caught trying to have butts ready for dinner and they were no where close to being ready

Ribs are done. Boston butt still has a little while to go. It's at about 180 degrees right now.

The finished butt. Room to improve on all of it, but not too bad for my first try.

IWEI

What was the method in the ribs? I did a Costco rack and went 3-1 then rested. Think I over did them when going 3-2-1. Used a honey, brown sugar, bar b que sauce as a glaze when wrapping.

Smoking all types of foods and substances has become a covid hobby.

Been wanting to do some pork belly.

I did 3-2-1. They could have probably gone a hour less. Next time I'll do 2-2-1.

Congrats on the Req Tec, I've had mine for over a year now and absolutley love it.

As far as Costco ribs, I smoked a 3 pack of their ribs last weekend and did not like the quality of their meat. Only racks I've done in a long time that I was physically unable to remove the silverskin from any of the 3. I usually have zero issues with any meat from Costco, but think I will look elsewhere for baby ribs from now on.

If you are talking about the membrane - Costco ribs don’t have a membrane typically on back ribs. They leave membrane on St. Louis style.

Also, new owner of Rec Teq and been super impressed. Super consistent

If you have the freezer space, Creekstone has the best price for quality with ribs. Order a dozen at a time. Open one of their racks and you will immediately see the difference compared to the stuff Costco sells.
