Sure...in aggregate. But if you have a place like a cigar bar for instance then you're fricked.

Saying it don't make it so. Restaurants sure, but when drinking and smokers are involved I seriously doubt that's the case. Regardless, why would you want to make anyone do something they don't want to do as a business owner who's patrons are smokers? As PM said, it's a fricking bar. Just go elsewhere where smoking isn't allowed and everyone is served as they should in keeping with the free market and you don't wipe your arse with people's liberties in the process.
And guess what, if the market dictates that it's more financially benificial to have a non smoking bar to that of a smoking bar in the future then those who ban smoking as business owners will win and those who don't will either lose or capture all the hold out smokers, and still, everyone wins.

No...I step outside to smoke if I'm at home

)

So why are the smokers liberties more important than mine?

If the owner wants to allow people to smoke in his establishment then that is his decision. People aren't forced to go in and people aren't forced to work there. /thread
And I say this as someone that hates smoking in bars.

Because you don't understand what the word liberty means
Posted on 1/16/12 at 3:26 pm to TreyAnastasio
quote:Smokers can choose to patronize bars where smoking is allowed, and you can choose to patronize bars where it is not allowed. This equal liberty scenario is not sufficient for you? You have to expand your "liberties" to impose on smokers, friends of smokers, and bar owners who would like to allow smoking in their privately-owned establishments?
So why are the smokers liberties more important than mine?
Should cooking with peanut oil in restaurants be banned because you have a peanut allergy?

Liberty doesn't mean that you have some right to go to private establishments and have people be forced not to do things that you don't like.
I don't like country music. If I go to a bar that plays country music it isn't trampling on my liberties. I need to find another bar that I like to go to or just don't go to bars if it bothers me that much.
Same with smoking.

They aren't. You don't have to go. Allowing for others to enjoy their liberties while them letting you enjoy yours is what America is all about. Dictating such policies from government however is NOT in the spirit of what this country is supposed to be about. When people, especially those who call themselves "conservative" begin rationalizing and justifying such legislation placed upon the private sector simply because they really just want to dictate the policies of private business it's appalling.

It's rather curious why it never occurs to these people to open up a smoke free bar themselves

Exactly, if the market is that big, then surely it's a can't miss business opportunit being missed here.

.....and eating at a chain restaurant is a what? Violation?
You mean if I want to dine out, and choose NOT to go to some locally-owned establishment, I don't have to go? Without recourse from you and your perceived social injustice? What a novel concept...a free market at work
