I am shocked it took this long.

Sign taken town, stickers removed from windows, furniture all tossed around inside.

Furniture was stacked neat on Thursday when they shutdown.

Damn hooligans must have tossed it.

Is there another around. Got a bunch of coupons I never used.

They announced about a year ago it was closing. Not sure what took so long.

They didn't do well in BR either. I think the mall location might still open though. It is pretty average imo.

And Chipolte dropped a bid to go into the space afterward SB left. I believe the owners agreed not to open a fast food place there. I wonder what happened with that Chipolte lawsuit.

Chipotle was going into the old Radio Shack down near Washington. Atlanta Mexican joint, Superica, was going to go into the SB spot. Both faced local opposition due to being chains. Superica >>> Chipotle

I see the old BR location is becoming a LIT pizza.

Agreed. If the lessor is fine with putting their investment at long term risk then let them do it.

It's a shame, Smashburger was tasty IMO, just a little pricey. They are closing around my neck of the woods as well.

I love the downvoters here.

The people of New Orleans hate chains so much we need city government to implement as many artificial barriers as possible to keep them out!

Isn't it great that people can choose to live where they like? People living in that place are anti-chain. No one is forcing anyone who is pro-chain to live on Magazine Street. The country is full of cookie cutter establishments. You can live literally anywhere else and enjoy the sameness.

Seems like you wouldn't need artificial barriers to them if this is TRULY the case.

Also, the idea that the only thing keeping local places in New Orleans afloat is a steadfast notion that we must forcibly keep chains out, is sort of pathetic if you think about it. Good thing being, I don't believe that is true at all.

The amount of overreach the city does to stay 'authentic' kills the progress and keeps development out of other parts of the city.

Let the people decide with their wallets.

No one was ever in Smashburger. It failed for the same reason the other burger place failed.

And the mentality seeps into every other area of commerce, whereby the city thinks they should be able shake down ANYONE nationally who wants to do business here, such that the city ends up and remains the irrelevant economic backwater it is now. But, hey, at least we are still "authentic" for all the hipster transplants from Des Moines.

Less ya got a sports man for a host or really kicking big tv's etc burger joints are tough. Good burgers and po boys at most gas station deli's for cheap are hard to compete with

As it should be

Another chain, Pita Pit, on Magazine and Nashville closed as well a few months back. I wonder if they were forced out?

The Superica in Houston is pretty good. That’s Nola’s loss as the # of non taqueria Mexican joints in Nola that aren’t terrible is very limited.
