Yea that’s a good plan. I like good people brewery. That’s another reason I love bham is there is no shortage of brewery’s around town. I don’t even think I’ve been to all of them yet

Bendy's is really good
Best ice cream in BHam. I kind of hate it’s attached to Martin’s. I wish it’d get more business.
For another new pizza place to check out: Uncle G’s is a food truck specializing in Detroit style pizza. It’s really good. Mostly stationed in Pelham but it’s been venturing closer to downtown lately as its popularity grows.

Big Spoon's quality is really good, I just don't enjoy most of their flavors.
Agree that their flavors are very hit or miss, but the ones that hit are really, really good.
And while Bendy's touts their cookies, I like Big Spoon ice cream sandwiches better. I love those thin, almost wafer style cookies they use.

They just announced they're opening a second location in downtown Trussville.

Any other recommendations for Bham?
Sports bar, steak, and/or casual good eats.
Our golf group is headed to Oxmoor Valley in a few weeks.
Thanks

Sports bar
We don't have these. (honestly, Bham sucks with sports bars for some reason. Best bet for Bham proper would be Paramount. Hickory Tavern is "okay" but nothing special. Lots of tvs and decent beer/wings/chicken fingers. Sports bars suck here though. Some of the breweries aren't a bad spot to go to watch games at. Avondale Brewery has a very nice open back area with a big stage and massive screen. They have a good food truck and there are a couple good restaurants within 30 yards of it.

steak, and/or casual good eats.
Helen is a new and very good steakhouse. It is done family style.
Perry's - It is a chain, but the place is just good if you've never been to one.
Satterfields - Very good, good variety between steak and seafood
Dyron's - probably Bham's best low country style restaurant.
El Barrio - mexican/southern fusion type place. Bang for your buck is my favorite restaurant in Bham. Get the Chorizo queso.
Bottega - Dressy/casual type place, one of the best overall restaurants in town. Will need a reservation.
Saw's - They have a couple of locations that all do a little bit of different stuff. The Juke Joint is the most variety, the one in the Homewood area is more strictly their BBQ.
Gianmarco's - May be my favorite restaurant in Bham. Will need a reservation as well as it gets crowded quickly.
Automatic Seafood
Some more casual places that could be great for lunch or dinner:
Carrigan's Public House (downtown locatoin)
Jack Brown's
Rojo
Foodbar
Johnny's Diner
Bamboo on 2nd
These are all mostly Bham proper. Some of the other guys can help out if you are going to be more in the vestavia/hoover areas.

Just got back from there and really enjoyed pies and pints (pizza with a great draft beer list) and blueprint (has something for everyone food wise and good cocktails). Hero doughnuts was a solid breakfast/brunch spot.
Tried to get into hot and hot but it was slammed.
Lots of good breweries. Top 3 would be TrimTab, Ghost Train, and Back Forty.
Never made it to any of the downtown joints.
Really impressed with Birmingham.

Others will disagree, but my favorite sports bar in town is On Tap in Hoover by Riverchase Galleria. Good beer list, and decent bar food. Wings are good. Other than that, it's mostly chains. BWW, there's a Walk On's, whatever Baumhower is calling his place these days. Victory Grill I think. I think there are 2 locations. The Galleria one may have closed, not sure. There's also a Twin Peaks by the Galleria. Never been.
The best steak in town, IMO, is at Helen downtown. They serve family style meant to share so it may be a good choice for a nice dinner with the group. It's not specifically a steakhouse, but most everything they serve is grilled. There's also a Perry's and Fleming's if you want traditional steakhouse.
Casual eats is endless, and depends on what you want and what part of town you'll be in.

Surprisingly has a great burger.

You really can't go wrong with Good People, Trim Tab, Ghost Train, Back Forty, or Cahaba. Just depends on the beer you like as they have some pretty different offerings. Cahaba has their Oktoberfest right now which I like.

Yea it is crazy hard to get into without a reservation.

I miss having a good On Tap nearby. The place isn't stellar, but I don't need to it be. Just give me good wings, good beer, and good service.
Not going to lie, as of now, The Club on saturdays is probably the best sports bar in town

Wish BR had half the breweries Bham has
I preferred trimtab but my friend liked ghost train more because they had some dark beers. The wife liked back forty because of the food. All great places.

Agree with all of this, but like Spleen mentioned, On Tap isn't that bad for beer, wings, and sports. Baumhower's on 31 isn't awful.

We watched a Monday Night game at Ferus in Trussville recently and that was cool.

Yea Trimtab is probably the "best" brewery in town, but i've gotten worn out on them because pretty much all they do now are sours. I enjoy a good sour, but it has been like two years since they've done a good new even amber beer or darker.

Ferus is a pretty awesome spot. They did a great job with it.

They have gone sour heavy the last year or so, and honestly all their sours taste about the same to me. I'm pretty burned out on sours though, at least the fruited kettle sours. So unimaginative, but they sell so I get why all the breweries do them.
They usually do a couple of stouts in the winter, but I can't recall if they did this past winter. I haven't seen their Hero Doughnut Stout in a while, so I wonder if they discontinued it.
They also still do at least one hazy IPA a month. They just released Azzacca Singularity last week. Haven't had it yet. The Citra Sigularity they did last year is probably my favorite one they ever did. The Mosaic Singularity was also really good.

The IPA’s and all there stuff is really good. I’m just tired of them is all. I would give my left nut for them to do a Belgian dubbel or quad.

Yeah, I wish they'd get into some other styles but they've found their niche with imperial sours and hazy IPA's.
Posted on 9/29/21 at 6:09 pm to The Spleen
Exactly why I liked them the best and my buddy thought they were garbage
Posted on 9/29/21 at 7:10 pm to Sun God
Yea they are a fantastic brewery with some really great beers. It’s just one of those places that as Spleen said, found a groove a d just hit it super hard. As someone that has gone there a ton, it just got old.
I’m the same way with basically all IPA’s at this point. No matter how good they are, just exhausted with them.

I think Covid scaled back their brewing a little as well, especially early on last year. They seem back to their pre-Covid release schedule, but not really getting too far away from the imperial sour/hazy IPA thing. Though they've done a few lagers, which is somewhat new. The agave lager they did earlier this year was fantastic. I wouldn't be mad if they made that a year round beer.
