Who sells a a good overstuffed shrimp poboy with obviously fresh small gulf shrimp in Baton Rouge. Not looking for the big nasty prebreaded Sysco shrimp on a loaf. Thanks

I like George’s Southside for a shrimp poboy.

City Cafe, Rocco’s and George’s are three of the better.
At City Cafe, get it with Shoestring Onion Rings!

Haven’t had one in years but that ghetto convenience store on Nicholson near McKinley had a good one.
Save More maybe?

Why don't you like fresh large fried shrimp on your poboy? I'm always disappointed when I order a shrimp poboy from someplace I haven't been before, and it comes out with little popcorn shrimp on it. They are constantly falling out the sides of the bread and you get much more breading in your sandwich with the tiny ones.

Nah this is how I like it. I want that shite full with shrimp falling out. I dont like when I go to a place and they tell you the exact amount of shrimp they put on it.

I agree with you Bigberg. I’m looking for a Baton Rouge version of Bon Creole (New Iberia) , Crabby Jack’s ( New Orleans) , or French Loaf (RIP, Houma). They must take great care in sourcing their shrimp (small, non-iodine laden), freshly battering them, and overstuff the poboy with em. Aside from the above establishments, shrimp poboys have been horrendous. I’ve had Jed’s, Crawford’s, Rocco’s, Poor Boy Lloyds, Chimes, and George’s…they all are big iodiney, nasty shrimp. I believe most of the above are prebattered, likely dumping them in the oil straight from the Sysco freezer bag. I’m sure that some folks may find that appealing if they haven’t had the alternative; which is either hard to find or nonexistent in Baton Rouge. Now that Bigberg has described what I’m after better than I originally had… is there any place in Baton Rouge that fits the bill?

I've only been to Acme in BR one time years ago, but my memory of the shrimp poboy is that it was as you desire.

Acme serves good poboys.

Save More Mart is the shite. Used to get hot sausage poboys there back in college. It was $3 to $4 for one that was 2-3’ foot long. It’s been years but it was the best deal I ever remembered in college.
They used to sell packages raw meat too. They had kits like Back Yard pack that was like 10# of different grilling meats like burgers, sausage, hot dogs, chicken and stuff for like $15.
