Seeking a local's suggestions for food in and around the Quarter

I've most of my New Orleans dining bucket list locations crossed off. I'm meeting a friend in the Quarter for a few days and while I'm there I prefer to keep my car parked so that I can imbibe without worrying about driving. (In other words, leaving the Quarter would probably be the best option, but I'm stuck there.)
The person I'll be with isn't really into fine dining, but they love good food and aren't picky, so I'm looking for a non touristy, non fine dining local's spot. I know there's always new places popping up around Esplanade. Peche and Butcher will be visited.
Say you're stuck in the Quarter for a few days in this situation. Where would the two of you eat/drink?

An easy choice for Uptown access, but alas, the St. Charles street car is under construction for the summer. Buses are running, but it's not the same charm. We'll probably make a trip to Uptown, but looking for suggestions while on foot near the Hilton. Yeah, we'll probably do Drago's.

Nope, but this person wouldn't appreciate a restaurant like Square Root for instance.
On a drink side note, does anybody know the status of the Dungeon? I heard a rumor that they aren't doing all three levels anymore. Any truth to this?

The Pelican Club is a place we go to fairly often. It doesn't feel as touristy, tucked in as it is in that alleyway. I like to walk around Michaelopolis' art studio next door before a sit down to eat. The food is very good and not too avant garde.
You can always go get a quality burger at Port o Call. The atmosphere helps make the joint memorable. Get a Mai Tai or Fog Cutter to start the night on a tropical note.
If he hasn't been to K Paul's, that's a treat. It's a bit more expensive, but it's casual and the food is just good! Prudhomme is a master at nuanced flavor from simple ingredients prepared deliberately if not in a complicated way.

Café Maspero on Decatur, Deanie's Seafood on Iberville and Oceana Grill on Conti are very good places to eat.

I had the $20.15 lunch special at Antoines this weeekend...would recommend it. Also had dinner at Cochon and it was still spot on.
Coops is ok...I have a friend from out of town that loves that place.
El Gato Negro is good for margaritas and chips and guac...we typically make that our midday snack place when we are walking the Quarter.

It is literally one of the most universally recognized worst restaurants in New Orleans.
Maybe the chargrilled oysters are good (I have not had them), but that place is an abortion. ANyone recommending it on here should be laughed at.
