I would try the parchment angle. Not sure about sausage balls, but with cookies parchment, silpat, nothing, light, or dark tray can make a pretty good difference on the bottoms.
Edit: Read up a little, rimmed vs a rimless pan makes a difference as well. Again this for cookies, but it's got to be similar.
Good luck with the balls and the game

My wife does ours. I'm not a baker, She says she does 350 for 22 mins for 1 " balls. Uses parchment paper.
Is your baking pan dark? That can increase heat on the bottom.

Gris - are all of the sausage balls burning on the bottom or just certain places on your baking sheet? I'm wondering if this is more of a pan issue and not a recipe issue. Definitely use parchment. If your oven has "hot spots" and your pan doesn't heat evenly then you will have issues. Make sure to rotate the pan halfway through cooking.

No hot spots. They were uniformly dark. Raised the rack and went with 350 on parchment. Much better. Thanks everyone.

What kind of cookie sheet are you using? The material and color of it can cause things to brown quicker or slower. America's Test Kitchen always made a point about the color and material.

Don't forget to grease the pan! I forgot this morning and they are stuck like chuck to the pan. After peeling them off they ate good.

1 lb jimmy dean
2 cups shredded cheddar
2 cups bisquick
325 for 12-15 mins
I use a aluminum baking sheet with non stick tin foil.
Jimmy dean has a zesty sausage ball recipe on the package of the ground sausage that pretty good.
