If you want to be with the rest of the tourists, go there.

If not, Z and Y, Great Eastern, or The Pot Sticker (off the top of my head) are better.

Ate at da Giovanni when n Carmel...it's was one of the best Italian meals I have had. They have a meatball app that is money. Great wine selection. Really unique atmosphere in a tiny little building. We will go back.

I stay in the Inner Sunset.

Seems like most on here like to stay near the Marina area or Union Square.

Eff the Marina, by the way.

True, although that doesn't mean it's not good, and it is.

Also, Mission Chinese Food is the food critics' darling at the moment, although not "traditional" as I understand it.

Yeah, Mission Chinese is mos def legit. I would say that some great food is found out on Geary in the Richmond district or in the Sunset, which is my hood.

The Orchard Hotel off of Union Sqauare is a great newer style European business man type of hotel. Great rates and spacious rooms for the location. This is a hidden gem in the heart of San Francisco, on the Powell Street trolley line and about a block from the world-famous Sears breakfast restaurant.

If your free lunch is on a Thursday make sure to go to the outside of Ferry Building and look for 4505 Meats. You're welcome.

If not, I'll need to ruminate on it for a moment.

San Francisco. Traditional Chinese, Thai, and or Vietnamese.

Thai Idea is great. Its vegetarian and in the Tenderloin, but on Polk for a quick walk back to bars. Believe only cash and no liquor license when I was there 6 months ago though. Food was worth it IMO.

Lots of Marina hate around, but Blackwoods was a very good Asian fusion place.
