Fried catfish and poboys will always be solid, but we no longer need 50 restaurants serving it.

Plus having George's right down the street doesn't help either.

LSUDad were you sitting at the bar?

Yep, about the time Charles Hanagriff walked in, he met another friend. I was the old drunk at the bar. Oh wait, there was more than one of us there!

Le Chein is another really solid option if you don't mind driving to Denham Springs.

My buddy has some ownership with that place, I keep forgetting to go there. I might try it out soon.

I miss my buddy Smokie, we use to eat a Pocorellos on Friday. The stories I could tell.
One Friday Smokie walks in with his phone in his ear, talking away, the conversation lasted over 20 minutes. Then he hangs up, orders his food. Sits down and starts eating, so he’s been there for an hour. One of our friends had stuff to do, walks in, then says,”Hey Smokie, don’t you drive that box, Orange POS? Smokie says, “Yea, what about it!” Well you left it running with the keys in it!
Smokie jumps up, says $hit! I said, “An that guy wants to be our Mayor!”

Lakeside is actually WAY better, but it’s a bar, so if you have kids or elderly people with you that’s probably a no-go.

Just Wingin It has solid crawfish and is kid friendly. Granted, it's at Hoo Shoo Too and Old Jefferson so a little bit of a haul from the original Sammy's.

Back in the late 90’s Sammy’s was awesome. I knew a waitress that paid for her boob job with tip money from one crawfish season. It started going downhill when they kicked the good Judge Irwin out. Never went back after that.

Jeremy is a good guy and is actually the one that does most of the boiling. (He is also the one that does all the other cooking for $1 burgers, Birria night, etc.)

I’m actually friends with his wife more. I use to help her and Bert Jones with their Cystic Fibrosis golf tournament. Good folks and a great cause.

I don't know him, but I hear he's a bit of a foodie?

I was asking some friends how/why Lakeside of all places does birria night, and they said because he loves cooking/food. That's really cool if true. I'll have to stop in one time to try it.

Went today for the first time in a while and it was great.

Wings were really good and the surf and turf poboy I had was fantastic.

Place was packed, I hope it’s on the up and up.

Will be back.

Le Chien

They really have theirs dialed in. I pass by Sammy’s almost daily, and there isn’t nearly the same level of crowds as in the heyday. And have eaten there a couple of times since the most recent ownership change and it’s very average.

And yes Dad, you know the owner at Le Chien from our days working for The Man

I’ve eaten there a couple times, every time it’s been great!

I like, in the same area, AGAVE BLUE TEQUILA & TACO BAR. Same with it, every trip has been really good.

I called our friend and had a table reserved for 10. Tried a couple of beers, just the shots. Then decided on a Margarita. Le Chien has their own Root Beer and Cream Soda, thought that was cool. It was open mic night. Enjoyed a little music. I went to the bar for a minute, three girls walked in, started talking with folks at our table. My table started waving for me to come back. One of the girls was from a town in S.La. She knew a bunch of my relatives and friends.

The food truck had some good bar food.
