If you have driven by there this past week, you will notice the tacky flags and weird blowup things hanging from the windows.

With the cheap sign and these tacky decorations, I instantly felt sorry for this place.

Maybe the owner is confident in his sushi and it will speak for itself but those decorations are horrible.

I give it 3 months

Between the other three sushi places within a quarter mile of there, the guy better have some of the best sushi in America for cheap if he plans on making it.

Does he at least have the blow up man with the flailing arms?

Pretty much all sushi joints make the same rolls with different names, none of which besides Ichiban stand out. That being said why saturate the market with more average sushi on a corner that already has two well established places in a building that goes unnoticed for the most part.

Yama has a say in this. Imo, they have better rolls

When I moved to Baton Rouge I never thought it would have a Sushi district.

I guess we'll find out just how large the "Heading Eastbound on Perkins feeling like sushi, but found myself trapped in the right line and don't feel like moving over and then waiting for another cycle of the Perkins/Essen light" market is in Baton Rouge.

I've never been there, but the general consensus is positive about them. They are one of the only sushi restaurants I haven't been to.

Yama and Umami are in the running for two best, IMO. Cong is doing some interesting stuff at Umami.

Surprising to me. You've been on here long and it's widely regarded as the best place in the city.

Give it a shot. It's very good

I've eaten at the Shrimp Basket in Mobile and it's actually pretty good unlike Long John Silvers or Captain D's.. However, Baton Rouge is absolutely saturated with cheap seafood fry houses. I see it having a hard time beating out more established names.

agree Umami is perhaps best in the city. Just feel he's in the wrong location for his concept.

when we went to Lit and that bistro between lit and unami... unami seemed dead unfortunately

with his talents, he should go towards CCL or highland and kenilworth maybe?
