Ruth's Chris does not serve prime filets. It's intentionally not made clear, as to make you assume such. However, on their menu, you will notice the steaks that are prime specifically say "USDA Prime" and the others (filet in particular) do not. This keeps it to where one assumes you're eating prime, but in all actuality you are not and they aren't lying about it either.

Every steak listed uses the word prime but the Filet and Petite Filet
how does that equal this

the menu at the restaurant is pretty clear on what is prime..

Ruth's Chris - Lafayette disappointment You would not believe the variances in the different grades of meat. I've seen select graded meat that was nearly white with marbling and choice or prime meat with little or none at all. Truth is that the USDA grade on a given cut of beef is no more than an educated guess. You never really know the true grade of the beef until someone like me cuts it.
There are 3 degrees of prime, choice and select. A plus, neutral and minus that has varying degrees of marbling so it can be significant when paying by the pound. Say prime at $20 lb versus choice at $10 lb when prime minus is really that different than choice plus?
No one could tell the difference. And I'm certain no one, at least the average person on this board, could tell the difference in a prime plus filet and a choice minus. Prime filet is a fool and his money.

They serve average steaks and smother them in butter for $50
Whatever, dude. The Lafayette RC is an outstanding restaurant. I think the app's, salads, and sides are outstanding... wine list and service exceptional.
We can argue about the steaks, and I agree with most that I can make a better steak, but enjoy the ride. Also, don't order a friggin filet.

Not sure what krewe they were part of... I actually wondered why so early it's not even twelfth night yet.

I've always heard that you never could tell a difference between a prime and choice filet.
Now a ribeye/strip is a whole different ballgame.

Epiphany is Wednesday

I'm not sure which religion you are but in the Catholic Church this past Sunday we celebrated it. I'm not saying you're wrong because over seas they don't always move those solemnities like we do here, because let's face it, it's hard enough to get people in church on Sunday without adding holy days mid week...

The Epiphany is the 12th day after Christmas which is January 6th, though in many places, it's celebrated the Sunday before.

Jones....the reason the second statement equaled what u stated is the same reason the question was posed as to whether or not the filet is prime. It is Ruth's Chris Prime Steakhouse. The average person will assume everything there is prime. I for one, many years ago, thought the same and found it odd that I saw a delivery of filets not marked prime. It's the fine print in the description that annotates the caliber of beef being served, therefore making the menu truthful while not directly telling the average consumer the answer.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I said. A little more succinct but the same none the less.

I was confirming what you said a bit more straight forward.

They probably have prime filets at times, but around Christmas the demand goes through the roof and price goes up, so some type of choice is highly likely. If anyone just tells the manager they weren't satisfied , 99% of time they will get you taken care of.
