Kinda the same. Been caught up in school stuff so haven't been out as much.

I felt a little out of place at rum house to be honest. Too many post college frat daddys and girls that are trying way too hard to look good

I didn't know it attracted women like that and let's just say I was WWAAAAYYYYYYYY underdressed.

I felt like an ugly troll compared to the full out L.A. nightclub getups these women had on.

LL - you are the furthest thing from a troll I have seen. And you always look super cute! But I did feel like it was a place to be "seen". Welcome to BR, I guess.

Sidenote: LNCHBOX, you are an arse, but you make me laugh!

I don't know why you feel the need to white knight for such a mediocre place. Are you Mike or Kelly?

Wouldn't it be easier for you to just admit that by your own words you contradicted yourself?

Full disclosure, I've eaten at the Rum House exactly 3 times and think it's OK, but enjoy it for what it is. I'm not knighting for anyone.

No, you just sound impossible to please if you think their food is well below decent, which apparently you actually don't.

I wasn't going to respond to this, but now I feel like I should.

You are a complete and utter a-hole. My OPINION is that Rumhouse sucks. I like PLENTY of popular places in this city. I eat out several times a week and am satisfied by many places. Rumhouse is not one of them.

So have your opinion. But don't be a fricking dickhead.

I wasn't being a dickhead, I was just using words you posted. Unbunch your panties.

No. We have a different definition of decent.

What I meant was, the tacos are edible. I don't gag on them.

Everything else I've gotten there (foodwise) I think is total and complete garbage.

I've been there a lot since the very first day it opened and I still don't get it. I don't find it to be a "fun place", and I don't think the food is decent, it is well below decent. But the place is WILDLY popular, so I just chalk it up to "I don't get it".

I don't know if anyone is saying the food is 5 star quality. And I don't really get all the talk about "atmosphere."

I don't particularly pick the Rum House as a place to go just to eat. But on a Tuesday afternoon in New Orleans in the spring, it's a really enjoyable place to go. I like going early and sitting outside. The foot traffic on Magazine is nice. And the specials on Tuesdays make it possible to get full and have a few drinks for less than $25.

We can form a "Don't Like Rum House" committee. Eat at places we actually like, where you don't have to worry about "ordering the wrong thing" (since the right thing seems to ONLY be tacos). I'm being funny, lighten up y'all. Some people don't like the latest and greatest thing to hit BR. It's ok, we'll make it through. Just don't bring up St. George.

Sounds like you need a dictionary then.

quote:

1. conforming with generally accepted standards of respectable or moral behavior.
"the good name of such a decent and innocent person"

2. not likely to shock or embarrass others.
"a decent high-necked dress"

informal

3. sufficiently clothed to see visitors.
"make yourself decent"

4. of an acceptable standard; satisfactory.
"find me a decent cup of coffee"

quote:

Well sorry the English language doesn't use decent to describe that. Pick better words or prepare to confuse people.

I also don't fine 2 hour waits to be enjoyable.

But I digress. I had forgotten what happens on this board when you have the audacity to not like this place. Oenophile is still licking his wounds from last time. I shall withdraw.

The definition of every adjective is relative to the person's experience.

I was using the term decent to try and relate to you and your extremely low intelligence and standards.

Exactly. Even if you might be able to get off work and head right over there by 5:15 it's already overrun with students, tourists and the unemployed who've been there since 3:30 waiting for a table .. tables on the sidewalk seem to be where people just park themselves for 3+ hours. I never pass by on a Tuesday afternoon/evening and there's not a line up and down the block.

How so?

If I get there by 5:30, I get an outside table immediately.

ETA: I guess I just get lucky when I go then. I went two weeks ago on Tuesday at 5:30 and got an outside table right away.

Name a similar place w/ better food and lower prices? (besides the place on Julia no one has ever heard of)

You could walk down the street to La Cocinita and get better tacos for a cheaper price, then find a bar to drink in after.

Well at least I'm intelligent enough to use the correct word and not blow up like a teenage girl.
