Ruby's Recipe - Old Baton Rouge

Does anyone remember this restaurant? I think they finally closed off of College Drive (Service Merchandise was probably still there where Wal-Mart now is). It later became a gay bar, and several other failing businesses. In between the Interstate and Perkins. (Amazing how after three years you forget what street is where)
Anyway, when they closed, maybe early 90's, my dad stopped by to get their Lump Crabmeat Au Gratin recipe. They refused to give it to him. He just made one tonight, a lot like Mansur's, but he misses Ruby's. Does anyone remember or have some direction on that recipe? Help is appreciated!

Mansur's used to be in that center? But I don't recall a Ruby's. There was a small restaurant on the other side of the center (left hand if facing towards Service Merchandise). I don't recall that restaurant's name either, but I don't think it was Ruby's.

I don’t have the recipe but it was on Concord Avenue that runs alongside what used to be the KMart. It was a couple of things then Phil’s Oyster Bar moved in for awhile and went belly up.
It is now Thai Kitchen and they do well at that ungodly location.
Ruby’s was originally under the Perkins overpass where George’s is and Smokie Bourgeois bought it when he had to close his head shop on Chimes Street. I can’t remember the name of that.
Good luck on the recipe. John Besh, John Folse and Tom Fitzmorris have good ones.

Prior to Cipriani's in that location?

The Ruby’s people built the building. I think someone here might have said the family still owns it? Not positive about that. It was Ruby’s first.

Was Ruby's owned by the Bargas's?

Think it was some lady named Ruby.

Across the street, but you are correct. I went to Mansur's for prom in 1999 in that location. If you looked across College and to the right, there was Ruby's, before the creek (train tracks?)

That sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't know.

No I misread your original post, thinking that you were talking about the Service Merchandise center. I remember Cipriani being in the location that Martini described, but before that I don't remember what was there.

All I know is Ciprianis was god awful. One night the sides were green beans and mac n cheese. Tasted like it was from Stouffers. Old Mansurs was much better set up then new one.
Original Great Wall was also where Walmart is. Also had a Godfathers pizza in front about where Capital One is. Good times

And a Kroger and the original Choc o Lodge, K&B Drugstore, the original Coffee Call
There was a record store that I can’t remember the name.

yes, I can remember one night at closing they had an attempted robbery and the owner came out with a shotgun and chased them into the canal behind the restaurant, don't recall if he hit any of them
quote:...loved this place, first owned by Ralph and Kacco Olinde, Chef Joey Distifano had a long stent there, and later owned by Don Gerald.

And Don was married to the Olinde's daughter Phillis correct?
I remember Philli's Chili which was named after her and is now the Copelands on Essen.

Ok. It’s been a long time. What ever happened to them? I know Ralph and Kacoo are in Mallard Lakes next to a friend of mine.
I always liked Phili’s Chili.
I guess this thread got derailed.
