Heard a rumor this weekend regarding the recent Rouses purchases.

I was told that Rouses has a deal with Kroger to sell out to them but, the deal hinged on Rouses having a certain number of locations. They are supposedly going after all of the AG stores in the area. And apparently Calandro's is the lone holdout.

The rumor may be just that. But, the speed of their recent acquisitions seems strange.

It is. The Rouse family, DOnald Sr to be exact won't allow that to happen. He has deep family values and roots and respect what pops started too much to sell out to ANYONE....... Same thing with Calandro's

There is more selection that I prefer at Rouses in Gonzales.

However...several longtime employees have quit since the transition from LeBlanc's to Rouses.

Some of the new staff are young and lethargic. Not exactly friendly. Not every employee but a lot of them.

they are my 3rd-4th choice in AP. Leblanc's was always my first.

LeBlanc's had a great hot food bar. Matherne's had great plate lunches. Rouse's is warmed over slop.

I'm pretty adaptable but damn Rouses fricked up the LeBlancs hot food bar.

Terrible.

Could be correct but as people get older, families get bigger, dollar values get larger it makes cashing in family businesses a lot easier. Happens all the time and happens all the time with businesses that "swore they would never sell out."

I must be one of the few people who barely ever bother with the prepared foods at grocery stores.

Grandpa, old man leblanc were the original AG guys as I am quite sure you know. I do remember when Rouses left AG, Donald Sr demanded that Rouses get better pricing than anyone else essentially because they were the big dogs at AG then. He threatened to leave AG, the board straight up told him ok, we will have your check ready for you when you get here. I got this from someone who would know, and I believe it. Not sure if old man Rouse was still living then. He either died shortly before or after that.

I won't believe the kroger/publix thing until it happens. Crushing AG is more plausible to me.

The LeBlanc's transition was a mess, particularly at Drusilla.

Good idea to close the Matherne's and do a complete reboot on that property

Thew few times I've decided to grab some hot food there, it has been painfully bland.
