Road trip from BR to Seattle

Have a friend who is driving from BR to Seattle. Taking I-10 to Surprise, AZ and then Los Angeles, and then driving up through San Francisco and on to Seattle. What are some must-haves along the way? He doesn’t want to venture too far from the Interatate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hear there is free lodging on the streets of Seattle.

He gets to stay for free at the Navy bases along the route

Once in CA. I'd have to hit the PCH for the ride north and skip the interstate. I've done a lot of traveling on my motorcycle and much prefer state roads over interstates.
The only issue with state roads, especially out in places not so heavily populated is availability of gas----especially on a motorcycle with a 200 mile fuel range. Sometimes you have to stop even if you don't think you need fuel because the next gas station may be 25 miles past the time you will run out.

This. One of the most beautiful drives in the country.

If he drives the PCH, he should stop at the Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City, OR. Right on the beach with a magnificent haystack rock a few hundred feet offshore. Food there is very good and beer is solid.

Yes, they are taking the PCH. I’ll add Pelican Brewpub to the list:
