My point is that I like Pappadeaux, but if I was in La. (living or visiting)I wouldn't go there.

Then again, maybe I would if I lived there, but I can't imagine why.

I love Pappa's, all of them. Always hit one of them up when I'm in Texas.

Pappadeaux's would be a top 10 restaurant if they opened one in BR.

It's not as good as Lagniappe but it really is on the same level or better than most of the other seafood restaurants in BR. I guess since Lagniappe gets most of my seafood restaurant business in BR I don't have established favorites at the others, so if PD was in BR they would be my second choice behind Lagniappe.

I almost never get fried seafood when I eat out because very few of such endeavors have well seasoned batter. BUT, Pappadeaux's does a damn fine job of seasoning their crawfish tails. I didn't order it of course, but when the folks at the table behind me left some on their plate, I couldn't resist sampling.

The Pappa's family of restaurants used to be pretty good...but they raised prices and lowered standards to almost Landry's levels.

The only Pappa's places I'll go to these days is Pappa Bros. or Yia Yia Mary's.

I too have noticed a slide in recent years. Portions shrinking, consistency sliding, bad management, waiting, and hosting.

Thought it may have been due to over-expansion, or just potluck locations. But, when they start getting weaker with their signature greek salad on many of their menus, you know it's gonna be many dishes and locations.

Hate that Denis' Seafood sold out that one location to them..loved Denis' in the late 1990s.

We stop at the one in Beaumont off I-10 every trip back and fro H-Town and BR
I've done this too, but only if the timing is right. There's a Mexican restaurant on the West side of Beaumont called Acapulco which has very good food if you're looking for good Beaumont eats.

I just looked them up on google maps and it looks like they've changed their name to la Cantina. Exit 850 which is Washington Blvd. The menu says "under construction", so if this place is indeed changing hands, it may not be a solid recommendation.

I'm always looking for good recommendations on that drive to and from Houston. Usually the Whataburger wins out late night on the return trips.

They have good cheap raw oysters when they are in season. I use to eat lunch there every Friday when they are on special. A dozen, bowl of bisque, and some bread. Awesome lunch for about 10 bucks.
Now since I don't live there when I visit it's not up on the list of place I must eat, I go right for the mexican.

I think I preceded the second statment with
"then again."

I was attempting a little humility because maybe I would go there if I lived there, but since I don't I can't imagine that I would. Clear?

I have such limited time in BR that when I go there I like going to Louisiana places, so I can't imagine going to PDeaux even though I really like it.

Hell, I don't know.
