Lapedigos(sp?) on Tiger Bend. I had a pepper encrusted ribeye there a long time ago and it was awesome.

Strangely enough the restaurant I miss the most in this town was a little mom and pop Chinese place that used to be around the corner from the house. I do not even remember the name of the place as its been gone for a few years.
But the food was great and simple.
They worked everyday, him in the kitchen, and her at the counter. 6 days a week. She would always try to strike up a conversation, but her english was not the greatest.
They had no hired help. But made some delicious Chinese dishes. Everything ala cart.. NO BUFFET HERE.
Everything from scratch for the most part, none of this pre-battered, frozen buffet crap I see everywhere today.
Man I miss that place…Sadly they retired 3 years ago and moved to San Fran. to be with the daughter.
Is there a Chinese place that serves off the menu, I mean no buffet food?
Is this possible today?

Yeah it's Jerry, and he is a nice guy. The food there tastes the same as Nooley's.

I actually worked for Mr. Jerry over @ Nooley's on Jones Creek one summer when I was home from college....

Was it called "Canton"?? I have never had true Mandarin Chicken since that placed closed. Everything there was made from scratch by the couple that owned it. It was in the old Fast Track building on N. Sherwood Forest..............
Here's some not mentioned that I loved:
The Mirror Steak House - It was located in North B.R. on Airline, adjacent to where Scallans Meat Market is. It was my 1st experience as a kid for upscale dining. That was my Bday present evry year by choice.
Shakeys Pizza - What a concept, what a product!! Thin crispy Pizza's, cold Pitchers of Beer, long rows of tables where everyone sat with each other, live music with Banjo's and Piano, big screen showing Little Rascals and Laurel and Hardy shows. This place was ahead of its time and its concept alone is dearly missed.
Peking Gardens - Was located in Corporate Mall, adjacent to where Hooters is now located. Great Chinese food, but the huge draw was their drinks. It was the place to go (along with the Happy Note) for pre-drinks to get your buzz started right. The Zombie would frick you up without you even knowing it. Drinking two was manly and they would not serve you three. The Mai-Tai was killer as well.
Duffs Smorgesboard - This place had a huge "Lazy Susan" with a huge assortment of Lunch items to choose from. I remember leaving that place so full, going back to work was un-imaginable.
Jack's Grill - It didn't stay in business but a few years, but it was one of me and the Wife's favorite. We dined there every Valentines (we don't even go out on Vday anymore) and this old dude would go from table to table "crooning" the gals with his Acoustic Guitar. They all left that place "moist"...........
ETA: LaRouge Gardens - This was a Bar at Sherwood Forest and Florida Blvd. owned by Don Pedigo that served a huge arse Rib-eye. The steak was in-expensive as Steak Diners go, but you were eating in a smokey Bar. The Steak was always killer tho. I think Don still has a place over off Woodale..........

Casa Garcia, when in BR, had a slightly unique take on things such as bean dip, chicken fajitas,etc..and the maragritas were great. Still in La, but now only on Vets in Nawlins.
The Cotton Club, dive atmosphere, but was the spot to be on a Friday night if wanting to crack open some good crabs with the old BR faithful.
The original Serops on Government, was elegant, had a massive menu, and the food a clear cut above the now proliferated chainesque quickie locations, of which serve a fast food version of a limited menu. Was the one restraunt in BR history known for having New Orleanians come to BR to eat, instead of vice-versa.

you are so right.....my parents used to drive to Baton Rouge from Mandeville once a month to eat at the old Serops location on Government...that place was great....

I'm gonna implore Vasken to reopen a fine dining Serops location again, others have made similar remarks to him about such. The quality of the Serops, Albashas, Arzis, Sammies,etc..are largely mediocre sans Serops on Perkins, which has Vasken's lil' brother Johnny as a chef and owner.
Serops on Perkins is the best lebanese place in town. Best fatoush salads, fried shrimp, meat grape leaves,etc..
