Restaurants coming to BR in 2017

Lots of stuff coming to Gubment St.

I own a house right off Government Street. That ain't the case. Yeah, there were a couple of robberies recently, but the knuckleheads who pulled them off were arrested in a day or two. We regularly walk to Curbside, Calandros and La Carreta. The area is only going to get better with White Star Market, that New Orleans coffee place I can't think of, and the beer garden.

For the amount of times I hear this, the criminals have been rather disappointing in the area.

I view this all part of an ongoing Baton Rouge civil war.

The North Baton Rouge forces have made steady progress over the years, taking huge swaths of territory along Florida Blvd and slowly inching South toward Government St. These forces also walked un-opposed into downtown and set up several outposts in South Baton Rouge territories, namely Gardere and Old South Baton Rouge.

The rebel forces of South Baton Rouge, with their backs against the wall and armed with several neat new weapons: (1) Hipsters, who want independence but don't have enough high value assets to worry about theft, and (2) Urban professionals being hired by the dozen because oil company demographics are so screwed up, finally decided to double down and reinforce the Government St. border and retake downtown.

Salvo after salvo of art shops, eateries, and craft beer/cocktail bars are being fired up along the border and in newly conquered territories in an attempt to keep it secure. Let's hope it works.

The forces of South Baton Rouge still face many threats. For one there is a hole along the Government St. border between downtown and the mid-city area, and North Baton Rouge forces still have a strong hold on territories in Old South Baton Rouge.

These problems, along with the greater Baton Rouge traffic clusterfrick, keeps downtown an economic island. It is barely able to sustain the type of organic, whole grain only, farm to table bakery filled with used patio furniture that hipsters and urban professionals thrive on.

Apparently, Chelsea's closing hurt them, because they didn't have the cash flow from that place coming in to help offset the costs. Then the flooding caused delays, because everyone jacked up their fees for engineering, construction, architectural work, etc. Think I heard they would be open by spring-summer. Can't imagine it will take that long to build the beer garden.

All I'm saying is that government is blowing up. Will the surrounding neighborhood support all these restaurants? I see ppl who live further away not going bc they think the sane about crime in that area.
I live closer by And will be dining at all of them at some point.
