Hello, all. My first post. We'll visit family in Baton Rouge soon, and want to take a group of 4 for boiled crabs. Figuring the bulk of restaurants with boiled crabs will be around Pierre Part/Belle River, we're willing to make a trip of it. But, any suggestions for places to go will be much appreciated. A plus for a restaurant includes offering softshell crab poboys. Thanks!

I would not trust getting crabs from anywhere that isn't within 15 miles of the ocean. You're better off getting oysters in BR.

I've been buying and eating crabs in the Ascension parish area my entire life. Never a problem, not once.

This is a pretty dumb statement. Do you realize how many crabs are caught in rivers and lakes far away from the gulf?

Also they have this new technology maybe you have heard of it. They have this thing called automobiles. They even have fancy ones with refrigeration compartments that can carry the fresh seafood and actually deliver it to places inland.

Drive to Richard’s in Abbeville…call and see when they open…get there soon after and see what big boys they have for the day.

I agree his statement was not smart but I did not know crabs were caught in rivers and lakes far from the Gulf/ocean.

Not to mention there are very few saltwater rivers in the world.

Yeah that crossed my mind as well. I had a roomie in college from Cameron and they had a butterfly on the mermentau (sp) river. Not sure how far up the salt water actually is tho.

The other day, I posted about Red's Restaurant on Hwy 22 in Maurepas, LA. They've always been good there.

Carbo’s. It’s on Hwy 77 south of Plaquemine going toward Sorrel.

I remember when snow crabs used to be cheap.
And what’s worse is the freaking prices on king crab. I’m assuming they will never come back in big enough populations for the pricing to ever come down

Blue crabs can live in freshwater. We used to catch them in Belle River

Anyone know how far Louisiana is from the ocean? I know we have the gulf, but I don't be know how far that is from the Atlantic.

Yeah, but they aren't going to be plentiful. Not enough to supply seafood shops and restaurants.

I and the girlfriend just paid $80 for a plate in Florida. 4 huge clusters with plenty of meat. Birthday dinner and that's what she wanted. Otherwise.....
