re: What coach out there has very similar background/experience that Saban had that Skip liked
Posted by Tigerjulie on 10/28/25 at 7:23 pm to QB
When Miles' 2007 team was in NOLA for the Championship Game with OSU, Bertman was interviewed on BR radio. He was asked how he landed on Miles. Bertman responded that he used the process he understood Emmert used to find Saban. Look for a coach at a major conference (to me, all jumbled up after all the realignments) at a second-tier football school in that conference, but whose team will "punch above their weight". Ok State beat OU 2/4 under Miles, and that was what got Bertman interested.
Sounds like a great strategy now.

re: Which decade was Tiger Stadium at its peak?

I starting going to games with my parents in the late 1950's. I went to both the 1971 ND game and the 1979 USC game, as well as the 2003 UGA, the 2012 Bama game, etc. The quietest it got during the 1979 USC game is about the loudest it got in any of the other games. In the Tuesday State Times newspaper, Coach Robinson was asked about the noise in Tiger Stadium. He said, (sorta quoted), "We've played at ND, at the big house (Michigan), Rose Bowl, etc. In any case, we had Hollywood sound effects guys line our practice field with speakers. We'll be okay." Gauntlet throne, the Tiger Fans were the ne plus ultra of loud fans, anywhere, anyplace. Even though we lost, the 1979 USC game is the best game I've ever attended.
re: Remember how people used to say "The exception that proves the rule".
Posted by Tigerjulie on 1/7/25 at 3:38 pm to POTUS2024
Originally, one meaning of "proof" or "prove" was to "test". I believe the meaning in this phrase is the the exception tests whether the rule is correct or not. Similarly, the saying "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" means that the test of whether a dish is delicious, or not, is in actually eating it, and not in reading the recipe.

Are SS recipients penalized if: (A) they take benefits before Full Retirement Age (FRA) and, (B) continue working and make more than the amount allowed by SS? You could be penalized something like $1 for every $2 earned, making a huge dent in the SS payments. You should look very closely into the penalty for Earned Income when taking before FRA.

I believe it was The Blue Bird - they also served beer in frozen glasses, if my memory is correct. If this was answered in the previous 8 pages, my apologies.
re: Is it true that the road to hell is paved with good intentions?
Posted by Tigerjulie on 3/17/24 at 6:34 am to Jimbeaux
My understanding is that the phrase has two meanings, depending on the circumstances. It can mean actions planned with good intentions, but not acted on, lead to nothing, at best, or the wrong thing happening, at worst. The second meaning, as mentioned, above, is that good intentions, in and of themselves, aren't what matters; it's the consequences of the actions that matter. Or, beware unintended consequences! Anyway, that's my take.

I suggest Jimmy's Famous Seafood. Get the Seafood UFO sandwich; it comes in small and large (feeds 4). No matter which size, the UFO contains a made-to-order crabcake, fried shrimp and oysters, and shrimp salad. It is outstanding! The lunch and dinner menus are found here LINK

Thanks to everyone who replied. We narrowed it down to Richard's, Red's and Carbo's. Heck, we might try all three!
Restaurant for Boiled Crabs
Posted by Tigerjulie on 8/8/23 at 7:33 am
Hello, all. My first post. We'll visit family in Baton Rouge soon, and want to take a group of 4 for boiled crabs. Figuring the bulk of restaurants with boiled crabs will be around Pierre Part/Belle River, we're willing to make a trip of it. But, any suggestions for places to go will be much appreciated. A plus for a restaurant includes offering softshell crab poboys. Thanks!
