I know I shouldn’t be lazy and just cook my own and I will do that if I have to. I live in south texas so I am pretty limited on choices. I do like Popeyes and there is a Cajun BBQ place near my house that has even better red beans than Popeyes does. But $12 for a container is a little much. Are any of the wal mart or target options (I don’t think there’s anything at HEB) ok or am I just going to be sorry that I bought them?

A quick way to do it, if you can get Blue Runner Creole Red Beans, is to mix one large can of that with a 14.5 oz can of Margaret Holmes Red beans and Rice. Add sausage if you want.

Thanks. This is pretty much what I was looking for. I don’t even mind if it’s just the red beans by itself either. I will have to see if any local stores carry these beans

Which parts? Best stop is selling their stuff in Portland and in the Corpus area now. That gives you some really decent sausage to use. The blue runner beans are pretty good just add some seasoning and sausage.

If I’m not making them (most of the time), I have a can of blue runner in pantry. Red beans are great but I still Dr them up with garlic powder, Tony’s, and black pepper. Set that on the stove for about 45 mins on mid to low.

ETA: their black beans are good too.

Yep.

I usually sauté some onion and sliced Holmes Andouille, add one can of red beans to a can of Bluerunner, season similar to you. Cook some quick rice, works in a pinch.

My dad adds a can of Rotel and some sausage and onion to some Blue Runners. They turn out delicious

Nothing like tomatoes in red beans.

C'mon! With all of the good smoked sausage you can get in Tx ? Just cut some up and (maybe brown it) and let it simmer with the beans for an hour.

I also live in a place where the only option is Popeyes.

When I don't make my own I go to Publix and buy a can of Blue Runner, a bag of seasoning blend from the frozen vegetables section (onions, celery, peppers) and some Adell's andouie sausage. That makes a pretty solid substitute.

Now if I can just find some pre-made cornbread that isn't sweet and gooey. Damn these Yankees.

Blue Runner is pretty decent. I normally sweat down 1 or 2 shallots and 1lb of smoked sausage. Add 1 large can of Blue Runner and a regular size can of trappers dark red kidney beans and a can of water. Let the cook about 25-30 minutes and serve it over rice. Really easy and it taste pretty good.

Ok so I went to the more “cultural” heb and found what I needed. They didn’t have Margaret Holmes but upon some googling it’s at Walmart so I will be trying that next.

I got 3 cans of blue runner and then 2 boxes of tony Cs and 1 box of zatarains. The zatarains is about twice the size so I just got 1. I’m gonna mix the boxes with blue runner and then try Margaret Holmes in about a week and see which I like the best. Thank you for the recommendations boys.
