That's what I'm gonna go with. Might buy the smaller one though. I just want to sit around, smoke, and drink on the weekends.

Ask Wick if he is ordering a load Primos any time soon, if he still does it. I have a heavy offset smoker and haven't used it once in 2 years since I got the Primos.

Have large Primo and 18.5" WSM and both work well for smoking. WSM gives better smoke ring and flavor in my opinion. Will be smoking brisket tomorrow on WSM.

If new to smoking I would recommend you look up "BBQ Wisdom of Harry Soo" for great tips using the WSM. He uses them in competition and wins often.

Harry’s BBQ Wisdom is simple:
1. BBQ is ready when it is ready (so don’t hurry).
2. Less is more. Less smoke, less rub, less add-on’s.
3. Opening your smoker is bad.
4. Too tender is good.
5. Foiling is good.
6. Grilling is not barbequing. BBQ is low and slow.
7. Always have fun when you BBQ, even if the results are otherwise.

So true, especially with the rubs. I've been using less and less the more I BBQ

18.5" sucks for ribs IMO b/c you have to either cut them in half or roll them into pinwheels

ETA: works great for everything else

I got a 40" stainless Masterbuilt electric smoker model # 20070311 for Christmas. I added the extra cold smoker box and just put my WSM away. They are on sale at Academy for under $300. I've done ribs, pork butts, full packer briskets, fish, vegetables, and sausage in it so far. I will be doing another brisket this weekend. The best smoker I have ever owned. I set it for the right temp and just put 24hrs on the timer, fill the cold smoker box and walk away. It has a remote that I bring in the house and just put beside me. It comes with a thermometer that has been within 5 degrees of my Maverick so I usually just use it, unless I'm cooking multiple items. Then I just snake the extra probes through the top vent.

WSM gives better smoke ring

Smoke ring is a chemical reaction. Not really going to have anything to do with the cooker or actually with smoke believe it or not.
