I think Todd commutes and spends a few days a week in Dallas and a few in Baton Rouge. The reason he stated for moving operations to Dallas was that he couldn't find good 'top execs' to hire in BR. He tried for a good while to hire a legit CFO, but couldn't. Executive talent pool in the restaurant industry was the main driver. Some of the operations group is still here in BR.

I'll say this about the limited experience I know about his company internally. My wife interviewed with them several years ago. At the time, she was making over $50K at her current job as an HR manager. She has sinced received another substantial raise, but that's for another story.

Regardless, they wanted to hire my wife to do the same duties that she basically has at her current job. She declined. Why? They were willing to pay her $8.00 an hour.

After scanning this thread I find it pretty ridiculous how much bad mouthing of Cane's there is here; not even in this thread but on this board in general. All Todd and his crew have done is start a small business, watch it grow and expand not only in the BR market but throughout the country, hire hundreds of people to full and part-time gigs and be a pretty good corporate citizen to boot. I remember when 5 piece combos were $4 too...but that was 10 years ago. Business is business, they're not running a freakin charity or a food bank. They charge what they want to charge and people still line up to buy it - what a novel concept of supply and demand! And if you think the food sucks or its too expensive, THEN DON'T EAT IT. God bless America that you have the CHOICE to spend your money where you would like.

Dont call it bad mouthing. Call it Customer Complaints.

We are entitled to our opinions whether positive or negative!

Seriously... if Cane's were on top of their game, they would be kicking the crap out of Whataburger in the "FFT Round 1: #6 Rasing Cane's vs. #11 Whataburger" thread.

I don't care if you complain about the food or the customer service - that's legit. But I find it pretty silly that if its consistently so overpriced and the quality so poor that people still hand over their $7 then bitch and whine about it...

Do you not grasp the point? IF IT SUCKS SO BAD THEN DON'T PAY TO EAT IT.

I wish I could still grab a pile of Reveille newspapers, cut out 50 Bailey's coupons and eat chicken finger boxes for 2.99 everyday like I did in 1998. But those days are long past us my friend - so if you want chicken fingers but don't like Cane's product because its overpriced and tastes like dog crap then nobody is making you drive up, place an order and hand over your money. Go somewhere else that makes chicken fingers or make 'em yourself...The concept is pretty simple to understand.

I admit that I have eaten Cane's twice in the last 45 days!

However, I have the right to "Bitch bitch bitch & Whine whine whine" irregardless of the situation because it is not nearly as good as it used to be and I have to pay a lot more for it.

So when I eat there... it is mostly out of convience. And the fact that Popeye's Sucks, KFC Sucks, McDonald's Chicken Selects Suck, BK Fingers Suck, Sonic really sucks, Jack in the Box Sucks Too!

One thing I do Crave from Canes: The Ice! I love that crushed Ice over my Coca~Cola!

Many people around here don't "eat it," see the aforementioned fast food thread where locally grown Cane's is losing to a franchise started from out of state.

Lots of franchises succeed while being mediocre, do you really need examples of this listed for you? Surely you know some of them. Well for many, Cane's today is an example of that mediocrity. Most of us want Cane's to do well. Those of us that grew up on it are not happy that Cane's is mediocre compared to the past.. You will have to excuse us for wanting better from a home grown business.

I agree with all that - I want them to do well and I wish I could still get a massive box of food for $5. However, I think they have a pretty good feel for their business, they're obviously pretty good at it and I don't think they're trying to run it into the ground. The nature of franchising adds a certain amount of mediocrity to any business, restaurant or not. That being said I don't see the level of mediocrity that exists at BK or Taco Bell even remotely compares to Cane's at this point...

To the gentleman that says he can see it going away in 5-10 years if they don’t expand their menu. I would agree with your statement. I feel Canes will be the blockbuster of the fast food joints. The reason being, they will grow and grow and grow and with it there prices. Then another competitor from a national food company will decide they can mimic it success and charge less. My example would be how KFC/Tacobell/PizzaHutt or Yum brands has added a fast food joint called Wingstreet, why because there are 1000 of wing joints across America. Now here is where the blockbuster effect kicks in,,, what happened when blockbuster did away with late fees to compete with net flicks. Revenue dropped like a stone, not only that the franchise stores had to continue to charge late fees to keep afloat. When Cane’s does have to readjust things like prices, menu, or something else the Franchisee may not be able to readjust and fold. This is just my thoughts. As much as people love Cane’s I just don’t think it’s a good value in today’s economy. Especially if you factor in the quality and quantity of food, which is going down, down.

I dont eat there because it sucks and it is overpriced. all I said was that I will be very surprised if it works out in opelousas because we actually have chicken joints here with way better chicken for a better price. plus the demographics here dont agree with 10 dollars for a box of chicken tenders.

In Jefferson parish, the tenders at several of the Brother's chicken stations (not all of them) are better than Cane's at a fraction of the price.

i disagree with this. With Chilis curbside pickup you can pull right up and they will hand you foo and you can hand them the money and drive home. Whats the difference. I don't know a lot of people that actually eat canes in the car anyways.

So you honestly believe that the majority of people looking for fast food think that Chili's is a fast food option? Plus, you think that Chili's customers are more likely to get their food to go rather than eat in?

I am sure the Chili's people would love to know that they are nothing more than a fast food joint now.

Really? who would want to pay more for less. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Alright, let's try using our brains a bit:

Pick between A and B (because "C" no longer exists):

A: 6 piece meal for the same price as the old 7 piece meal (let's say $8)

B: 7 piece meal for 25% more than the old 7 piece meal (that would then be $10)

Plenty of people would rather pay less money in general than pay an exorbitant amount more to keep something small, like one chicken finger. In other words, there is a price breaking point for a lot of customers, and people that actually know how to think (not people on this board, obviously), can rationally say that by picking B they'd be saying that the 7th chicken finger is worth $2. Most people think it is not.

Just to let everyone know- chicken prices are the lowest they have ever been. Most processing plants are losing money every day.

to those that raise prices

(and they make a killing on fries, cabbage, and bread, btw)

that's what I never quite understood, chicken always seems to be a cheap meat...especially in bulk and the rest of that stuff is super cheap to make, buy and mark up....but when people pay that price, you can't beat that with a stick. some people just happen to be stupid.

and the chicken tenders at wal-mart aren't half bad either....for the person that says don't bitch about Cane's if you are still eating it....I don't eat it. Never was a fan because the chicken sucks in comparison to Louisiana standards. It isn't flavored well and until they started to nearly burn their tenders, the crust always used to fall off. Their sauce (I'm going to get hell for this) but it is nothing but black pepper and doesn't taste all that good, IMO (of course). The thing I love most there is the damn coleslaw. For some reason, it is one of my favorites but I can't exactly eat coleslaw for lunch.
