Actually, the menu said "Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye IPA", but they brought me a Racer 5

Yeah I was excited when I saw hop rod rye on the menu... and they served it to me. It is really good, it actually turned me on to rye beer. I haven't been in awhile, but stroube's seemed to have a small but good list of beers.

I just picked up doublewide ipa. $10. I was close to picking up gubna but shied away from it. Ended up getting green flash west coast ipa, maui coconut porter, and finally found maharaja.

Also, and I'm very proud of this, I spotted a lonely bottle of Black Butte XXIII. Dude was hiding them in the back to limit people buying them. I Picked up two bottles. One will be for the next tasting.

You should go. The food is excellent. And their beer list is pretty impressive for a place like that.

The last time I went was day after valentine's day. It was great but I really need to get out there with Varnedoe (sp?). Just from the menu changes I could tell he knew what he was doing. Took the less than great off and left the already great on.

California. I meant the West Coast basically. I think that Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and others may have been single hopped beers all along, but I am talking about the small batch stuff that breweries like Bear Republic are experimenting with the last couple of years. Almost like a winery using grapes from a single vineyard. It is all the rage, I hear.

Yeah, single-hopped beers are pretty trendy. Mikkeller does an entire line of their IPA with the recipe exactly the same except each one will use the same amount of just one hop variety.

I know what single hop is....I'm drinking one of my homebrew citra single hops. I guess that Mikkeler slut made single hop sexy......but I digress....no.

Did not mean to imply that you didn't. No need to tell me that.

I'll crack a can of Dale's over your happy arse head.

I haven't had any of the experimental stuff from the west coast.

That is what I was asking. Enjoy the rest of Friday night.

Haven't tried my 15th yet but I had the Hebrew terrapin and the first taste of my black IPA homebrew. Both were pretty damn good.

Had one of mine last night as well. The chili's were more muted than I expected, but that's probably a good thing. It took a few sips for the vanilla to come through. Overall, pretty good. I've got two more as well.

Let it warm up a little. The chilis added some heat to the back of your tongue.

The 15th smelled intersting. It had a strong smell of pineapples with some mango and and a berry I couldn't figure out. The fruits don't really come out in the flavor though. Overall it was a great beer for the price.
