Slowly cleaning out my parent's house. The next phase is to tackle a store room with ~200 jars; some full, some empty, about 50:50 split between quarts & pints.

My plan is to empty out the contents, then run them all through the dishwasher for cleaning. Past that, is there a market for used canning jars or am I better off trashing/recycling them?

I know quart jars are around $1/jar new. I have zero idea about how collectible they are though. I doubt people would pay that much if you tried to sell them. Maybe .50/jar for quarts. Definitely more for gallon and half gallon. Those aren't that easy to get. But by the time you wash them, etc... not sure if it's worth it to not just throw them in the dumpster and be done with it.

I do a lot of canning and there's not much difference in price between quart and pint jars----maybe just a couple dollars per 12 jar case as they are sold in stores.

You can buy lids and seals to replace the ones already used or rusted from almost any supermarket.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $.25 a jar if in good condition considering new lids and seals would be needed to make them useful, and that runs about $5 a dozen.

Someone will want them at a rock bottom price, say $20 for the whole lot.
Or you could donate the clean jars to a community kitchen, high school colinary program, or maybe even your local food pantry. Or go to your local farmers market and see if any vendors are using jars of that size—you might be able to barter your empty jars for some of the vendor’s goods.

Clean those bad boys out and make strawberry preserves. We're at the peak of the season now.

I have friend that fills them with moonshine. They're worth a lot more that way.

The jars and rings are reusable. The inner lids are not. I see people on Facebook all the time trying to resell jars for pretty much the same price that you can buy them new. Arts and crafts people seem to be more willing to pay the higher price.
