I dropped 45lbs over the last year... got back up to 260 before realizing I was getting fat(ter).
For now, I'm just reducing my calorie intake significantly and drinking 75-90oz of water a day. I haven't taken out anything major like carbs or sugars. I do try my best not to drink calories - especially via soft drinks and sweet tea. I've dropped 16 lbs in a little over 3 weeks.
Long way to go, but reading this thread has served as some great motivation.
Keep up the good work, fellas

this will help a ton. it is hard, but manageable. try eliminating known sources of sugar like soft drinks, sweet tea, cookies, cakes, ice cream, etc. And, try to limit your carb intake to about 100 grams a day instead of the recommended 300.
That should help you a good bit.

Thanks! I worry about cutting out those things because I'm afraid that when I start eating normal amounts of carbs and sugars again I'll blow back up. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

well, that's part of our problem. We need to lower our "normal amounts of carbs and sugars." I've been trying to eat virtually no carbs a day and virtually no sugar unless it is in the meat, veggies, and fruit I eat.
Once I'm healthy, I'll try to continue to limit my carb intake to 100 grams a day. and, i'll limit my sugar intake to maybe once a week of some sugary snack. Limiting these is not only helpful for losing weight, but it is great for just being healthy in general.
This link contains good phases for low carb zones.
quote:
300 or more grams/day - Danger Zone!
150-300 grams/day – Steady, Insidious Weight Gain
100-150 grams/day – Primal Blueprint Maintenance Range
50-100 grams/day – Primal Sweet Spot for Effortless Weight Loss
0-50 grams/day – Ketosis and Accelerated Fat Burning
For Example, the Atkins diet has you starting at the Ketosis and Accelerated Fat Burning phase and slowly moving up to the Maintenance Range when you finish the diet.
So, you can use that as a guide or pick your own "sweet spot" of how many carbs you'd like to have after you lose weight. I'd just recommend setting 150 as the absolute highest you'll go a day.

I'd watch Fat Head to help see some misconceptions about fat gain/loss, etc. It is a direct response to Super Size Me by comedian Tom Naughton. It's a great film and it is free on Hulu at the link above.

Part of the reason you blow up is that your body expels more water in Ketosis. I gain 10 pounds of water no matter what when I move out of Atkins.
Doesn't matter if I eat 1200 calories of rice a day, I still blow up about 10 pounds when I move out of atkins.
I keep trying to get below 160 so I will stick in the 160s when I move out of Atkins but I've been having motivation issues after almost 2 years of dieting....

My willpower to go to the gym has been wavering
I have been going every 2-3 days instead of following my schedule. I just get so darn tired the day after...

Are you including some cardio? That may help.

So for 2 weeks no cheats and probably having 20-30 carbs a day, I had some beer and shrimp creole last night. I blew up

Damn the wife and the girl scouts for bringing these wonderful delights into our home. 19 g of carbs in every pair.

Well, the office contest is over. I had a mental meltdown for the last 3 days and the damage done will be impossible to drop in the last 3 weeks of the contest.
I'm going to Cadfast to try and drain out the sodium damage but the 39 million calories I ate, stored some real fat back on my bones.
The only explanation for my mentat meltdown is of course.....
Alien mind control. They finally got me when I took my foil mind control protector off and once they had control, they wanted me to eat a little bit of everything so they could vicariously taste earth food from my perspective.
Hope the Cafast can drain a few pounds off! Oh the humanity!

363/281/250 this AM. I haven't seen any progress on the scale, but one of my roommates friends told me out of the blue today that he sees a large difference in me since I started working out. I've only seen the guy 2-3 times and the first time I met him was the day before I started working out.. so I guess he would be one to know lol. Just sucks not seeing progress on the scale.

Time to straighten up and stop cheating. You can do it. Just plan, plan, plan. Plan out your healthy food choices for the week. Plan out your exercise routines for the week. Plan out how your going to tell anyone who tries to get you to cheat to eff off/Plan out how you are going resist temptation. It is much harder to resist if you haven't made a decision and plan to resist.
I look forward to coming on here this week and seeing that y'all are holding strong this week. And, I can't wait to see y'all post on Monday saying that you've been good for the entire week with NO MORE CHEATING.
You can do it.

I posted in this thread a few times last year, but fell off the wagon mid-year, and now I'm back to start all over again.

I realized through last year's weight loss failure that I can't trust myself to do it on my own. So this time I'm on Nutrisystem. I'm in a "Biggest Loser" challenge that ends May 1st, so I figured I'd try Nutrisystem at least til the challenge is over. So far so good.

Keep it going. And at some point you have to realize that the only person you can rely on is yourself. Once you get to your goal weight, if you can't rely on yourself, you'll just gain it back. Gotta hold yourself accountable.
Keep up the good work
