Couple of people are coming here for the game so I'm doing burgers

I don't want to push my diet on them so this will be my splurge meal for the weekend.

Doing sweet potato fries as a side. Burgers are going to be pretty small so people can have multiple if they want. I'll probably just have one.

Only two pounds off my low.

323/166.4/165

Friends want to go out to dinner. Not sure I want to break hermit mode until I hit low.

Edit. With the victory, I am leaving hermit mode for the night.

No weigh in today-figured I'd let the water weight come off before I hit the scale. The jambalaya was too dam good last night and I had a little too much. Started today off with eggs and almonds. Shooting for 233 by Saturday.

Went to Casa Garcia. Loaded up on the chips and chicken fajitas to the point I was miserable.

gained 3.5 pounds.

I somehow gained 2.8 lbs since yesterday myself

I didn't think I splurged that bad. I'm sure some of it is just normal fluctuation.

Gonna go do some weights today before the Saints game

Sometimes I'm amazed at people's resolve to not blame themselves.

Ok, I was at a family reunion with my best friend, Megan. At one point, she asks if I can have gumbo, so I said no. Her aunt responds "oh some kind of strict diet?" So I answer "yeah, low carb". She said, "Oh pfft, you'll look great and a month later you'll puff back up and look like you did before. Happened to me and happened to my friend."

I almost went off, but I decided to just blow it off. But instead of blaming herself for not maintaining, or even blaming carbs for naturally making you crave more food, naturally it's the diet's fault. The tool that helped her lose all sorts of weight is naturally to blame, not her own inability to stop herself from eating or making herself exercise. People are ridiculous, man.

Yep. Sometimes I think it would be best to say, "I have a seafood allergy, gumbo will send me to the hospital. But thank you anyway."

No one can argue with this.

You crazy Hulk.

I definitely blame my waiter last night for refilling the chip basket 3 times and the bean dip 3 times.

Is gumbo high carb? I know that the rice is, but I wouldn't think that the gumbo itself has that many carbs, unless it's the flour in the roux (maybe?)

ding ding

It may not be many carbs, but it's very likely more than a low carber can have. If not, I have no way to prove it, so I'm not risking it

I just googled it and there are 80-90 carbs per cup of flour

As someone who has never done low carb but makes a habit of looking at nutritional information, I'm starting to learn that there are TONS of carbs in foods that I would have never guessed were high carb (like flour).

Well think about it, flour is wheat, which is all carbs. Just like bread, rice, etc. Thing about a gumbo is the roux is spread thin throughout the whole thing, so you're not ingesting 80-90 carbs in a bowl from the gravy itself. But gravy + rice and eating 2 bowls, possible.

Yeah, when you really think about where it all comes from, it makes sense, and when you consider if you make a 2 cup roux (180 carbs), then that's spread around to 50-60 servings more than likely, so it's really 3 carbs per serving give or take, but the rice really kills it.

All this carb stuff is crazy....

Carbs are everywhere, they are the mainstay of today's common diet. It's pretty tough to go eat out and NOT eat too many carbs. Even if you go order steak, odds are it's been marinated, and often marinades include sugars (carbs). CAD gave me an example once of steak fajita meat at a Mexican restaurant. 8 oz of the steak fajita meat had 40g carbs because of the marinade.

Yeah I actually found that hard to believe but it makes sense since you typically see a lot of the burnt sugar on the skillet

I just don't think it's necessary to make a fajita steak like that

Oh definitely not, but many restaurants will and do. It's tough to eat out and not destroy your diet on low carb, even if by accident.

Yeah eating out in general is just bad for dieting

Even when you pick things that look healthy the restaurant usually prepares it with more fat and carbs than you would if you made the same dish.

I remember I used to work at this seafood restaurant. This guy asked if we could make some sort of mixed veggie plate. They drenched it in butter and the guy made me send it back because he had some serious heart problems.

I got a pork chop at Casa Garcia once. I figured it would be carb friendly but it was smothered in a glaze that I am sure was about 40 to 50 carbs.

Unless the menu actually shows the carbs, it is doubtful that the food is truly carb friendly.

I had a good day yesterday but the weight held. Probably sodium hanging around from all those damn chips.
