Pulled pork in a crock pot

I wanna do pulled pork sandwichs tomorrow. I don't have a smoker so I will have to do it in the crock pot. All I know is I need a Boston butt. Thanks in advance for sharing recipes and techniques.

I do this all the time and it turns out great. I usually throw the butt in there with a couple of chopped up of onions, a lot of chopped garlic, some apple cider vinegar, and some ginger ale. Let that cook on low for about 6-8 hours. Remove the butt and then strain the crock pot to keep the onion and garlic. I then pull the pork apart and add it back to the crock pot with the onion, garlic, and whatever bbq sauce I have around and let that cook for another hour or 2.

What lb butt do you get?

Below is what a friend of mine does. It's okay. It's just not as good as smoked. If you can get some smoked paprika, you could add some of that for a little smoked flavor. A smoked salt might also help, but not liquid smoke.
I might add some cider vinegar, myself, like above. Friends makes blue cheese slaw to go on the sandwich.
Pulled Pork
2 onions 18 oz BBQ Sauce
whole garlic 1 cup water
Boneless Boston Butt
Stuff Boston Butt with whole cloves of garlic. Slice one onion and place in the bottom of crockpot. Add meat and one cup of water. Cook on low over night. In the morning remove the meat from the crockpot and let cool. Dispose of garlic and onion. Leave one inch of juice in bottom of crockpot. Shred meat (removing unwanted fat) and put back in the crokpot (with remaining juice). Add one chopped onion and 18 oz bottle of BBQ sauce. Cook on high for one hour.

Usually about 3-4 lbs because that is all my crockpot will hold.

yeah, I was going to say whatever fits into your crock pot. Just depends on who big that is. The rest of the ingredients are not an exact science.

Spice it up however you like, but the one tip I can tell you is don't put any Bar-B-Que sauce on it until it has cooked. I did this and that stuff burns. Bad.
We cook Boston Butt's in a pressure cooker with stock and assorted spices(It's different everytime)

If I didn't have a smoker, but I wanted it to taste as close as possible to the real thing, I'd load a small mound of lump charcoal and small wood chunks to one side of a grill. Once they're glowing embers, I'd put the roast on the side opposite the coals. Use a thermometer and any dampers on the pit to get it as close to 225-250 NEAR THE GRILLING SURFACE as you can (you're more likely to end up around 350). Cook it that way for about an hour (longer if you can) or so to get some smoke flavor going.
Then wrap the roast in foil, set your oven to 225 and continue to cook until you achieve your desired tenderness.
In my opinion, this is a much better-- albeit more labor intensive-- option than pulled pork in a crock pot.

Works better if you inject it in to the pork.

McCormick makes a pulled pork seasoning spice packet. It is on the aisle with the taco seasoning, brown gravy mix, chili seasoning etc. packets. You put that in the crockpot with either ketchup or tomato sauce and vinegar and brown sugar. I use it often because my family really likes it even though it is a huge cheat.

I've used them before. They are pretty small. You pretty much are steaming your food and give them a SLIGHT smokey flavor.

I have also made the one on the pioneer woman website for pulled pork tacos and nachos that has chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and it was really good.

i guarantee you nobody is winning any bbq competitions combining Heinz ketchup and a premixed pack of spices. sounds disgusting.
