SLIDELL
Met an old friend for lunch at Kenney's in Slidell. Had a shrimp poboy. Very good. Thought Peck's was better but it's been a few years.

Kenney's was always a good seafood shop but now they've added a restaurant. If passing through Slidell can recommend Peck's, Kenney's, Southside, and Palmettos. Slidell gets pooped on a lot but it has some great local seafood options.

OCEAN SPRINGS
First time I had been. A neighbor in Katy suggested it. Beautiful town. Weather was spectacular. Lots of art galleries. Didn't dine there but hope to return and will have to solicit recs then.

MOBILE
Plans got torpedoed when the Bay Ferry was closed due to the weather. Had hoped to eat on the east bay side. Instead, ate at an Original Oyster House. Had whole stuffed flounder. My wife (obligatory no pics) had blackened shrimp tacos. Both were great dishes.

Not food related but the Spring Hill area of Mobile has one of the most beautiful stands of live oak trees that I've seen. Have driven through Mobile 50+ times and thought of it as just a tunnel.

Question:
Saw a Ralph & Kacoos along US90. Ate at one on Bluebonnet in BR almost 20 years ago. Recall it being very good but had forgotten all about them. Is it still good? Their website shows it closed for remodeling.

PARRAINS
Have never been but supposed to meet some family on our rebound. Any recs?

Nice to see your review of Original Oyster House. We always stop at Bluegill next door. Nothing spectacular, but a fun place to stop with a great atmosphere where you can get a good enough meal to be happy.

That Ralph and Kacoos is not too good in my experience. I think it's worst of the causeway joints. I usually hit Blue Gill or R&R's. Felix's is good as well but stays so damn packed it's usually hard to get a table.

Felix's across from Ralph and Kacoos on the causeway is much better IMO

One of the better seafood dinners I've had. Had bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms for appetizers and the Pontchartrain for a main course. Service (Caleb) was great and food was even better.

Already back. But if you have recs would love to hear them.

I should've mentioned we stopped at Kartchners for a pepper jack boudin ball and restocked with Rabideauxs.

You should stop in Bay St Louis next time through. It book-ends the coast with Ocean Springs…but it’s got a bit different vibe.

My grandparents took me and my cousins there every time we visited back in the 80s. Is the one in BR still there?

Website says it's being remodeled.

Ralph & Kaccos was good when family owned, but that ended years ago. They were closed for renovations but won't re-open. They auctioned off everything in the building last fall. The building will come down and roadway extension put through the property.

Next time drive through the Spring Hill College campus. They have a road on campus lined with really old oak trees. Very hilly, winding campus, golf course on-site. It won't take but 15 minutes to see the whole campus but it's worth it. Very old church that's well kept. New and old buildings. Historic baseball field.

No need to be ashamed. Place gets a bad rap. Lived there for almost a decade and loved it. Easy living. Great people, fishing, seafood, parks, access to beaches, LSU, and NOLA was more visit-able then.

FTR, a grilled YFT with a side of onion rings at Southside is hard to beat.
